ParticipantMy wife recently complained that her cooking in the main fan assisted oven (Model no. 48147 S and now about 11 years old) was being overdone. I put it down to too much cooking sherry (!) but decided to check it out. Using a separate thermocouple I found that the air temperature was being controlled at 147-157 deg.C when the cooker was set at 100. When set at 180 (our most frequent cooking setting apparently) the oven air temperature was being controlled at 220-230 degC. The thermostat is definitely functioning but the results suggest my wife is correct about the cooker overheating. My questions are :
1. Is this accuracy of control (+ ~45 deg C) normal ?
2. If not normal, is it likely to deteriorate further ?
3. Is the thermostat at fault ?
4. Is it an easy job to obtain a new one and replace ?many thanks in advance.

It’s almost certainly the thermostat that has gone way out of tollerence, +45C is far too much.
The thermostat can easily be obtained, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for that but it’s not an easy one to replace in all honesty, you may prefer to get an engineer out to replace for you, the repairs@ link below should provide one 🙂

I have a similar problem on the same cooker. The thermostat controls temperature to +or minus 5 deg C but at a level 40 deg c above the dial setting.
Is it possibe to get rid of this offset by by rotating the temperature indicator relative to the thermostat.

The indicator has a “D” shaped hole which pushes on to the thermostat shaft so while it is possible in theory I suppose it would probably be easier to change the thermostat in the first place 😉
Also the calibration will vary depending on the setting so it still wouldn’t be accurate.

New thermostat fitted & works at the correct set point and controls within 5 deg. C. Not a simple job, as I was warned, mainly due to lifting out the oven from the housing to get at the back to remove/insert the stat.
I was very pleased with the service from the company I was put in touch with via this site. The engineer was punctual & very competent. First class job.
