Hello all; I hope someone can give me some advice.

My Creda ‘Reversair’ (37742) tumble dryer has been noisy for a while and I have (finally got off my behind and) traced the problem to a partly-collapsed jockey wheel. Which I can replace easily enough (actually, I’ll replace both, in case the second one is close to the end of its own life).

When I had the machine apart, I noticed that the drum shaft was slightly scored and had a bit of play within the bearing. The bearing seems generally OK, but is very slightly elliptical.

So my question is this: should I also replace the shaft and bearing using the replacement kit? My drum has the shaft riveted onto it, so I’m nervous about drilling those out to replace with this (screwed) alternative. A bit of digging suggests that my ‘best’ option may be a new drum (£160-170!).

Alternatively, should I accept this minor amount of slop and just put the thing back together? How critical is the smoothness of the shaft and its fit into the bearing?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Turn the bearing block 180 degrees. A little play is not a problem or you could buy a new bearing block if it bothers you.
A new drum is not worth the money IMO.

Thanks for that – done; re-installed the old drum with the original bearing turned round. The two new jockey wheels make all the difference and all is well. We can discard the earplugs now 🙂
