ParticipantMy Creda Concet Solarglo main oven has died. It stopped mid way through a roast! All the other parts, hob, grill, top oven are fine. Definitely not the auto clock timer, have checked this out.
Any ideas what I need to do? Is it the element or the thermostat? When I switch the oven on, the oven fan comes on, but the thermostat light does not come on, and neither does the element ….
Are these parts easy to replace? Thanks for any help.April 30, 2006 at 9:39 pm #174588iadom

Element failure is the most likely cause. If you isolate from the mains and look inside you should see a plate at the back secured by four screws, remove this and you will see the element. In most cases you can see obvious physical damage to the element, it will have swollen or burst, or twisted.
Element failure can sometimes lead to oven control damage.
The part number for the element is 6204370. You can click on the link in my sig to see if we have someone who can help or send an e-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for help.
Please make sure the mains switch is OFF at all times when you have your head or hands inside.

Dave . . I have removed the cover at the back, and checked the element. It seems to be perfectly fine, no distortion of any sort visible or tangible. Still no heat, no thermostat light, and the fan does activate when the door closer switch is activated . . . .HELP!

The oven thermostat may be the culprit in that case. It comprises two parts – an on/off switch to operate the fan, and the capillary thermostat itself. The cycle light works directly off the thermostat part, therefore no light, no switch action.
To be perfectly honest, without a test meter to actually test the element and switch, we can’t be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure of the diagnosis.
Thermostat is p/no 6222800 should you need it.

ParticipantThanks Penguin . . .is it difficult to replace? I presume that it is the part in the oven itself, and that I will not have to open up any more parts of the oven?

The thermostat switch assembly is mounted in the control panel, directly behind the knob, the capillary tube runs across the top and down the back before entering the oven chamber, where it is clipped to the back panel. So, yes, a pretty comprehensive demolition job required.
Assuming we’re right with the hypothisis…..
Time for some pro help perhaps?

ParticipantMany thanks to iadom, Dave and Penguin45 for all your help . . . it was indeed the thermostat, so after a couple of hours of dismantling and reassembly, my cooker is now back to full health!
Great advice, and great site . . . keep it up guys!!
