Creda Storage Heater

Greetings all – long time no post (thanks for sorting my washing machine and oven issues in the past)

I have 3 Creda storage heaters, 1 of which stopped working some time ago – I have finally gotten round to investigate.

The faulty one is model no: 79151C/TSR184, serial no: 14 1 00384

Having removed the front/top panel, I think I have identified the problem:

Checking another Creda storage heater, Model 79158 SN 08 1 00064, I have found what that blob of metal used to look like:

The two components have different part numbers so that suggests I cannot swap them over (the good heater is Economy 7 with a second manual heater element)

1. Is a replacement part readily available over a counter or mail order only

2. What would have caused this to happen?

3. Am I ok to just replace it (looks easy enough – two screws) or should the circuitry be checked first?

Bit off-base for most of us….. It’s a thermal fuse which has melted due to an overheat. There should be a charging thermostat and a vent thermostat to allow the heat to escape – failure of either of these can cause an overheat, as can covering the unit to dry laundry.

Best bet might be to have a look HERE for what spares may still be available.

I repair storage heaters regularly and Penguin is right it is a thermal fuse. The different part numbers are because they are rated at different temperatures.
You must fit the right one.

The most common cause of failure is blocking the vents with clothing but they do sometimes “just go”. For all the price of them I would fit a replacement and see how it goes. If it goes again them replace the input stat.

The vents have not been blocked, although they about 12 years old.

Just a quick update… phone Capri (from the link given above) on Monday, ordered the part and it was on my door mat when I arrived home from work on Tuesday evening.

Fitted it that night (a perfect fit), switched it on, and was lovely and warm in the morning.
