Hi, elements are OK, thermostats OK (closed circuit), all clean and no loose terminals or scorches. dryer heated briefly again twice since I closed it back up but is just doing cold damp tumbling now. Fan blows OK.
Did running check with fan/element cover off, (not approved practise I know) and can confirm power is not reaching thermostats or elements.
There is a third thermostat in the top of the door apeture, which is prone to burnt wiring. Failing that, one of the timers is the only other component left.
Bingo, never spotted that one. crumbly burnt thermostat removed and replacement ordered.
Sounds like a common problem, is usual failure mode genuine overheating, age, or hot contacts brought on by vibration?
I am inclined to fix the new thermostat and forget it as I cannot see easy access to check state of the connections short of dismantling dryer and removing drum.
