ParticipantI was left recently unable to open the washing machine door with a full load of washing (Creda W100FW). With help from these forums I was able to get the door safely open and replaced the door interlock (MetalFlex Tip ZV-445 Series M4) but now although the door latches and opens fine the machine refuses to operate at all. Put the old interlock back and the machine works fine but I have to manually release the door mechanism which requires quite a lot of trial and error.
Any suggestions for what to do next would be most helpful.
Thanks in advance.March 10, 2012 at 5:06 pm #370764electrofix

i assume when you put the old lock in even without the machine turned on at the plug the door latches and wont open
if thats the case when the lock blew it also blew one of the tracks on the pcb on the timer
this is fixable with a soldering iron and time and patience. follow the cable from the n connector on the door lock onto the timer to find problem. you will have to remove timer to sort itmake sure plug is removed before you open the lid

Thanks for your reply.
Your assumption is correct – with the old interlock the door latches and locks and won’t open using the latch. I took the front off this morning and looked at the PCB. There is no evidence of scaring, blackening or any apparent damage.
Following the two coloured cables from the interlock they appear to go to a small brown round device attached to the front fascia and to a long large grey cylinder at the back of the chassis.
Have I misunderstood something? What should I test next?
The main control board reference is AKO 901 2440 14 for reference. I can send pictures if you can provide an email address. (Pictures are ~277KB but forum is restricted to 256KB)
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.March 13, 2012 at 9:47 pm #370766Dales-Electronic

This may seem like a strange question but is the old interlock exactly the same as the new one – this product run had a change of manufacturer of the interlock – they are not directly interchangeable without modification.

The later WMA 1604781 interlocks were superceded and the plug had to be reversed but the 1602390 interlock for this WM type machine has never altered.
You really need to remove the control unit to check, the track that usually blows is right at the very front, upper edge of the timer, not easy to see without removing it.
When you say that ‘the door latches’ with the new interlock, does it actually lock, that is can you hear it click to lock or do you just mean it closes correctly?
