    Morning all,

Wondering if anyone can provide some advise re: above bearing renewal.
I’m trying to renew the drum bearings which have collapsed, and also damaged the spider shaft which I’m renewing too.
However, I’m having great difficulty removing the front (larger bearing) outer race. As the inner race and ball bearings have failed completely, the problem is obtaining a sound surface in which to drift out the outer race.
The rece appears to have “grown” into the platic tub housing, and I’m struggling to dislodge it!
Any ideas would be much appreciated, or am I looking at a new tub too??

    Regards,

To remove the outer race you will need the genuine Hotpoint bearing removal tool as it has special collets that engage in the channel of the outer race and pull it out. If you don’t have one, then the only alternative is loads of WD40, wait a while and then use a solid steel bar at an angle to the bearing housing and beat the…….well, hit it hard lots of times. 😉

and when done if you have missed, you might still need a new rear tub to house the bearings

There are a few old posts concerning this very problem. Check in search for Hotpoint Bearings and it should come up. Drilling at 45degrees into the sleeve and such 😉

Or invest in a mini grinder & cut a few slots… then bash it to hell with a hammer & chisel.. remember your eye (and ear 😯 ) protection though 😉
