ParticipantHi there! My CTD40 works and heats up but then some of the lights start to flash. I daren’t leave it running when I’m not in as don’t trust it now! It’s been happening very often for the last few months but not every time I use it. It’s a few years old and this is the first time I’ve had a problem with it.
The flashing lights are:
Time Delay (top light)
High Heat (3rd light down)
and the On/Off light.
Does anyone know what it is and how much it would cost for a professional repair? (I don’t like to to do my own electrical repairs)
Many thanks!July 8, 2010 at 7:30 pm #324952iadom

If you mean the 1st and 3rd vertical lights then you have a heater/thermostat problem.
Most likely to be the safety stat tripped.
Well worth getting fixed. There are two different stat kits for these machines dependent on which type is fitted originally.
Usual cause is a badly blocked condenser. The early condenser was easy to clean but this one is a stupid design and quite hard to clean properly. A pressure hose or even a garden hose will help, thats unless you live in this part of the world.
We are experiencing drought conditions and a hosepipe ban starts tomorrow. 😥

Thanks! I have found that I need to clean the condenser out more lately and that it is slightly better when I do so. You’re so right about the condenser – it’s a complete nightmare to clean. I try to do it in the sink by pouring jugs of water down it as it won’t fit under the tap. Haven’t got a high-pressure washer but could do it in the bath with the power shower. Thanks again.

hannahb, you say your T/D heats but then starts flashing lights, if you remove the worktop have a look at the insulator band around the drum, it is common that this distorts and allows the sensing band to touch the drum, this will say that the clothes are dry when they aren’t.

Participantnonsense
there are very few models around with an insulation band around the drum anywayit would just finish, there would be no fault code shown
jims information is correct
