ParticipantWent to a customer today in Basingstoke who bought a Hotpoint w/m from the local Currys store and paid an extra £24.99 to have it delivered AND installed. When the 2 men came with the machine they spotted the old Hotpoint hadn’t been disconnected. 😯
They then said that they “weren’t insured to disconnect the old machine!” the customer enquired as to what difference does it make as the new machine will have to be coupled by them to the existing couplings under the sink anyway? Surely simply disconnecting the old one would only take a few moments longer……? :con:
They weren’t having any of her reasoning and suggested she “get a neighbour in to help her install it instead!” ….plonked the new machine on the lounge carpet and left 🙁
NICE ONE CURRYS!!! :rotfl:

That’s actually correct, Currys won’t install a new appliance unles the old one is disconnected by the customer beforehand.
From their site:
We offer a high quality, efficient and speedy installation service for many large household items and PCs. If installation is available, you will be offered it as part of the order process. It is subject to additional terms and conditions which you must read before you order ( see below) but includes:
* Your product unpacked and checked.
* Product positioned and set up for you. (your old appliance must be disconnected before we arrive)
* Safe, secure, installation.
* PCs registered and set up.
* Product tested in front of you (excludes refrigeration products which must be left standing for 24 hours prior to use).
* Any unusual product features explained to you.
* In most cases, your old product taken away for you. It’s to protect themselves against dodgy taps, wastes and sockets I would imagine.

Oh I see now!…..the “in-built risk assessment factor against unknown elements” eh?….Currys management probably tell them… “If it looks dodgy lads, don’t do it, just walk out!”……fair enough 😀
I hope she gets her £24.99 back then thats all 🙄
(I wonder what their charge is to install an ‘integrated’ washing machine :rotfl: )

There are a plethora of reasons to not instal, especially on a swapout such as this one and PMB has just mentioned a few.
I used to do a bit of this for a certain WP and it was, IMO, fine if everything went according to plan. Not so fine when it didn’t. The problem is, it didn’t too often for my liking.
On the upside when it did go right it was a first time hit every time and when it went wrong they paid a little as it wasn’t our fault, so not a total loss.

Am charging £85 to deinstall integrated dishwasher dispose of and fit new one delivered by comet. Customer has been billed for removal of old appliance (as long it is sitting in the middle of the kitchen) but has not been told verbally that the door panel has to be removed and hoses disconnected.
