ParticipantTL;DR; This is a 13 year old budget machine! So beyond economical repair is more than likely.
(I’ll ask about recommendations in the appropriate thread and start looking at a replacement machine anyway)
That said, I was hoping to get confirmation that the fault is bearings (if that can be diagnosed from the info I have) and whether replacement bearings are available for this machine. I have also been aware there was some issue for a while, but kept not getting around to it; so may be too far gone and that’s on me :0(
Some links that may help diagnosis: –
– Turning (empty) drum by hand; showing movement and audio of metallic scraping sound
– Audio only of manual drum turning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Urm6w6lvN54
– Audio of machine on spin cyclehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Urm6w6lvN54Again this is a 13 year old budget machine and I’ve probably left it too long, so I wouldn’t want anyone to spend too long on this. I am completely prepared to write this one off. I got from 2020 until now with new brushes thanks to helpful members of this forum, so done well out of this machine.
Thanks.

Moderatorwell can only be bearings or spider
to check take lid off, your drum revolves but it also moves up and down which it should not. if you lift the drum up and down and the pulley does the sale its bearings if not its spider
but getting spares for this cou be challengingDave

ParticipantProbably the spider (drum support) has cracked rather than the bearings. The drum which came with the spider is now obsolete. If it was the bearings that had failed it officially was a new rear half of the tank unit which is also obsolete. Unofficially you could just change the bearings though you `d have to be careful that the shaft and hub ring was not chewed up and used 6205 and 6204 bearings using oil seal 35x56x10 Haier (the Chinese company that made it) part number 0020300441.
And yes they were wonderfully reliable, surprised yours` is 13 years old most should and are older than that. They, and the very similar Haus model, were very reliable well made made machines. Though at the time especially on Uk Whitegoods they were poo poo`d as being Chinese junk which was more to do with protectionism of repair industry (`cause they were cheap so could not charge big money to repair) rather than true facts – typical of some of the blokes on this site at the time who just repeated the mantre without ever working on one!!.
And so it has had its day. What to replace it with is the next question based that I will be out of date since I retired some years ago. Makes to avoid IMO: Turkish made Beko although I always found the simpler Chinese made Beko 6kg entry level machines very reliable machines. I would avoid Bosch, Siemens, Neff, Amica, all the Turkish Vestel machine brands, Hotpoint, Indesit, Miele, Hoover, Candy. So perhaps have a look at the Curry`s logic series, TCL FF series or Teknix (the latter 2 are more or less the same machines not necessarily the same prices). The TCL, circ 300 quid or less has a tank you can dismantle (because I have one) the Teknix I presume is the same. Just some comments take them with a pinch of salt have a good look see at what is on offer, you do not need to spend a fortune BUT I doubt whatever you buy will be as long lasting as what you had. Haiers btw are expense bits of kit these days but without much of a spares back up. Zanussi are reasonable machines though they have sealed tanks except the Thailand made machines. And have a look at Hisense series 3 very similar to a TCL.
Keep away from auto dose machines if you value your sanity.May the Revoluntionary Shining Path force be with you.

ParticipantThanks for the input. I have a post on the buying advice thread, separate to this. Interestingly Bosch is recommended on there, so food for thought: JUST my opinion based on sealed tank unit. I also didn’t realise Miele was part of the Vestel thing now; thought they were still independent (based on nothing more than assumption) I never said they were! And they are not anything, as far as is known, got anything to do with Miele.
Interesting point about auto-dosing as well; didn’t even know it was a thing until looking at new machines. For the past 13 years I’ve just put detergent into a cap and popped it in the drum with the wash and had no real issues with that: Good, so so carry on as you are doing. A few times a bit too much detergent on a hotter wash, which results in excess foam. So the mop up job and learn to put less in next time: Yep reckon most follks have done that sometime.
I’ve seen new ones that show you can install a mobile app, scan a QR code on the detergent etc. I would like to see some data on what I gain vs putting dose in cap in drum: No idea apart from it is crazy. That’s a lot of extra complexity in the washing workflow: Sure would be for no real world gain.

ParticipantAre Haier decent? Not sure now but were sparse on spares – might have changed, equally might not have? There are some for around £330 and that’s with promotional 5 year warranty. MODEL NUMBER PLEASE would be good AND RETAILER even better.
EDIT: just spotted direct motion motor, so brushless? Yes like some LG`s and some Samsungs – there is direct motion i.e. with no belt and just inverter brushless with a belt plus and minuses to both but I`d go for the latter (the one with the belt).Which in power tools (battery ones at least) is considered better, but think there are posts on this forum less keen. Obviously more expensive than belt to fix if it goes wrong- could be probably would be.

Ahh, I’ve mis-read “….all the Turkish Vestel machine brands, Hotpoint, Indesit, Miele” i.e. I’ve read the list after as being examples of rather than list before.
