    Hi,

So I’ve only just realised that my fridge is no longer cooling and the freezer is now defrosting but, the light works!

There is absolutely no sound like with a working fridge/freezer!

I have switched on/off.. Nothing, but it does click about every minute or so.

Is this something I can fix myself, not really in a position to pick a new one up!!

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Lisa

at the bottom of the fridge at the back is the compressor
put your hand on it and see if its hot/warm

if yes then power is getting to it and its not starting

if no its probably a thermostat problem

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for your reply.

The compressor is warm to touch. Does this mean it will need to be replaced?

    Many thanks

    there is one long shot

some late compressors use a capacitor to start the motor. cant say if your model is one of them, if it has you should find a small cylinder ( about 1 to 1,5 inches in diameter) with wires going to it. if you find it and look at the writing you will find a value something like 5uF. its going to be something between 4 and 7uF.

if you find it there is no way of checking it has gone without changing it

after that it will either cure it or its scrap

Currys essentials range is a cheap cheap bottom of the market products that will do the job but probably not for long. Also not being a known make spares will be either difficult or not available but capacitors are a universal product and the site shop may have something to fit

    Dave
