ParticipantI attended this job, a Whirlpool integrated with no wash action. I had a look meaning I merely pressed the buttons on the door to see what happens, carried out the insulation test on the plug to see what throws up.
Nothing threw up on the insulation test, the dw did drain well, fills well, no error codes.
Basically what happened, the dishwasher drained out, then fills, then no action for few mins then auto drain out. I have dealt with it few times, usually this indicates motor fault, since it is integrated, I am reluctant to take it apart so I decided to get a new motor to save on time and take my chances there. Maybe there might be a remote chance a jammed motor but then it would have thrown up error code as I have seen this before. There’s no error codes at all.
The history of the dishwasher, it was said it was repaired 10 times with the same fault and it had everything replaced – no records to prove it. It was used once a week. I couldn’t work out if she is exaggerating. I asked since she had so many troubles with the 4 years old dishwasher then why didn’t she contact the retailer to request a replacement rather than going through the insurance as she could have had a new replacement by then. I suggested that if she feels that she had enough of the dishwasher then it is wise to replace it and start afresh.
She was unable to give me a decision so I left it there. I went home, she phoned to rant and rave that I merely walked in and out of her house and hardly looked at the dishwasher. To be honest, I didn’t need to open up the dishwasher as the fault was fairly straight-forward. She rants and raved on that she is going to post on FaceBook saying how crap I was on the job. I said to her, feel free but I don’t think I would have done it differently.
What would you do in this case?

How dispairing it is to know that customers (or the posher equivalent : clients) will resort these days to threatening to post adverse comments on social media web sites. Bl**dy world’s gone mad….! 🙁

I wouldn’t do anything nor would I refund anything!
In your opinion, what’s the difference between her putting some crap on FB as opposed to her slagging you off to her mates when she has a coffee morning get together before Jeremy Kyle comes on, just after she gets the Tax Credit payment she’s been waiting for?

Takes years to get a good reputation but only minutes to get a bad one.

Man up would be my attitude. Your the professional, so act like one, its your business and how you run it is of no consequence to idiots, your only responsibility is to act legally and since charging a fee to attend is not illegal, why admit your dodgy and in the wrong by a refund.
People choose tradesmen for lots of reasons, some of the worst you’d be surprised to read actually get recommended because there so friendly that people don’t realise they pulled there own pants down and bent over. Even the most reliable and honest can loose customer for some of the most ridiculous reasons, I wouldn’t hassle it, Facebook is generally full of morons.

Pre-emptive strike: find her on facebook and block her so she can’t find you or comment.

TBH, I’ve had this a few times.
Normally it’s either the loons or, the people that aspire to be loons or, a few that think they’re clever and didn’t get what they wanted, irrespective of how unreasonable that might be.
Almost always there’s an ulterior motive or just sheer bloody mindedness to cause harm.
There’s not a lot you can do and I have to concur in that, the best thing to do is ignore the threats totally and deal with it appropriately if and when they decided to make an idiot of themselves. Most of them usually do.

Thanks for the wise advice. It was the first major complaint I ever had in 5 years. Sometimes it is good to reassess yourself and see if there are room for improvements. It is reassuring to know that none of you challenged my working practices which means that I must have done summat right there.
This customer didn’t get what she wanted so I think she used the opportunity to vent her frustration on to me after all it was probably her first time using someone like me outside the insurance and probably surprised how much it would cost to put it right. She were accusing me of trying to sell her a new dishwasher, there was some truth in it but I was merely pointing out that if she had enough of this dishwasher due to track record of unreliability then I may be in the position to offer her to replace the machine and start afresh. She was given two choices, repair or replace. Either way she probably not happy with paying over £100 for repair or over £300 for new dishwasher.
BTW I have not yet returned the charges, I am not admitting liability just to keep the peace, I will pop by when I am in the area which is probably on Friday evening when I take my sons swimming so she will have to wait…

At one time people accepted life was not perfect, mistakes happen and so on and when they rarely complained accepted an apology, then they wanted compensation, now it seems people want to destroy a person, there seems to be very little thought as to the consequences of there, sorry Martin their actions.
Personally l cannot wait for the zombie apocalypse to arrive.
