on dealing with a grumpy customer who said i damaged the lino which was already damaged when i got there and then getting a quote to replace at over 300 squid i phone the carpet man and found the cheeky bastard had asked not only to be quoted for new kitchen floor but bathroom as well. so now i get them to sign before i removed the applances. which basiclly says that if i remove the appliance on your behalf we cannot accept liability for any damage arising to floor coverings, cabinets or figments etc.if they want to remove it them selfs thats up 2 them long as they dont try to claim of my insurance.

    Hi Tony,

This has been discussed before bu tI guess it’s worth re-itterating the point.

Disclaimers are worth Jack in a court, if it goes that far, as you are deemed to be “competent” to remove the appliance.

I tapped out a load of stuff on the forums a while back now but if you search about you should find it.

The golden rule I have my guys stick to is simple, if there looks as if there could be any potential for damage at all – DO NOT remove it!

That rule only works if you refuse the job point blank. Quite often the engineer fails to spot any potential problems until AFTER the job is done. He may or may not have damaged the flooring/wall covering/skirting/worktop or whatever, THEN the customer hits them with a complaint. 🙁

No way out from then on in, just hope your Public Liability Insurance is up to scratch. Very often this type of customer is no stranger to Insurance Companies and see a great opportunity in spending £50 to get a man in to fix the washing machine, when what they really want is brand new flooring, courtesy of your policy. 😥 😥

Tell me Tony, in this specific case, I bet when you got there there was very little if anything you found wrong with the machine 🙄

A few years back, some ‘Bar-steward’ customer of mine successfully claimed for the ground floor flat to be completely redecorated, thanks to my Public Liabiltity Insurance. I repaired a w/m in the flat above, but did NOT reconnect it to the water supply, instead left it in the middle of the kitchen floor. Customers says, “My husband will connect it up when he gets home thanks!”………..Next thing I know, I get a phone call to say they are sending me a bill for the DAMAGE I CAUSED ????

Didn’t stand a chance mate, they got me by the painful bits 😥

Keep smilin’ thru the pain though eh 😆

    Re: Customers flooring

only had to fit brushes in his hpt and machine was already out with lid removed when i got there,so fitted parts placed lid and gently slid machine back. next thing his missus on fone screaming that i ****** up her lino when i removed it,when i said the machine was already out she said it was not possible as her dear old man had a bad back and be no way he could remove that. so i must of done it and be trying to cover up and blame her poor 70 year old old fart of a husband.

Edited by Dave, Tony, please don’t use expletives, thanks.
