ParticipantMy Cylinda FT 22 is making a weird noise while spinning the drum at low speeds with load. Without load (only water), the noise can not be heard. I’ve tried to grab the edge of the drum at the front but it feels firm.
I wonder whether it could be a bad bearing or litter stuck between the drum and the tub? If I spin the drum empty with my hand it feels fine and it won´t make the noise so I suspect it’s a bearing. If so, how is the drum disassembled? I can see the big hex bolt at the back after having removed the back cover but is there a special tool needed to fix the drum while untightening the bolt? Is it difficult to remove bearings on this machine?

Is this still your old Bosch machine or have you replaced that. Cylinda is not a brand sold in the UK as far as I know.

I posted on the forum back in 2007 or so regarding a Bosch dishwasher, yes. But this thread is about my Cylinda washing machine. I got very few hits searching for Cylinda so it makes sense to hear that this brand is perhaps not sold in the UK.

Your machine is apparently also sold as a Hotpoint FT22 in Sweden. It looks like a Swedish made Asko machine. A very good quality machine sadly no longer produced in Sweden since the company was bought out by Gorenje of Slovakia.
It could be a loose drum pulley causing that noise, you could remove the drive belt and feel if there is any sign that the pulley is loose on the drum shaft.
If the bearings where faulty it would usually make a noise with or without a load.

At a guess from that short clip…
Motor brushes.
Something in it. If I were to bet, I’d got for that. If you take the belt off and turn the drum by hand and the noise remains then it’s either that or the last option.
Last option, bearings. Not common at all but can happen when the machines are hard worked or have a hard life, overloading etc.
The pulley looks sound Jim so I’d doubt it, possible of course but those machines are not known for that at all, like almost never.

Last night I washed wool with the wool program (lots of water) and it was noisy as ever. This morning after reading the replies (thanks guys) I removed the belt and examined the drum pulley. Feels fine, firm, no noise. I then started a program without the belt and grabbed the small pulley on the motor shaft, glove on. I could grab it and squeeze to the point it nearly stopped, no bad sound but sometimes it felt strange, not sure if the pulley/shaft stopped spinning OR if the pulley slipped on the motor shaft? The outer side of the pulley is not flush with the motor shaft end side. Perhaps I could try to hit the pulley with a wood piece and hammer?
Even stranger: after reattaching the belt everything is silent! Can’t get the noise back, great! But, I have a feeling it will return…
I have to check the possible issue with the pulley on the motor shaft, or what do you think?

The noise sounds to me like belt slip on the drum pulley. I would try taking off the shine on the pulley where the belt rides with some emery paper, or replace the belt.

Belt slip would explain a lot, e.g. load = noise, no load = no noise. I think I’ll go ahead and try to find a new belt.

Sigh, five weeks of delivery time on a new belt. I’ll try the emery paper suggestion tonight, perhaps it will be enough until the new belt arrives.

Just to confirm, belt slip was the issue here. Emery paper on the drum pulley shine made a big difference. Belt will be replaced. Thank you all for constructive ideas and suggestions!
