ParticipantI have a Daewoo DWD G1441S direct drive washing machine
The main drum bearing is very noisy and has a lot of play, so it needs replacing.
How do I do this?
I am an electrician by trade and competent at most things mechanical, but when I start searching for how to fix this, I find a lot of second hand parts “removed from a machine with failed drum bearings” which tends to suggest they are not servicable.

as long as the drum splits and it does look like it does and spares are available then it can be done
don’t know this machine myself but I would expect the tub needs to be removed so its a complete strip down making sure you know where everything goes back
then split the tub, knock out the drum and inspect.
you may find the drum spider is damaged if its gone too far and if its gone beyond far the outer tub may be damagedafter inspection order all parts and rebuild

Thanks
Yes the (plastic) drum outer does split. And yes expect it to be a bit of a long job.
I had hoped to order a new bearing and seal before I strip it down so I can fix it and get it back in use quicker. Where do you recommend for getting the new bearing and seal.
I doubt it’s gone too far yet. The play is not enough for the drum to scrape on the drum outer so I hope no other damage has happened yet.

another question, does anyone have the service manual for this machine? if so could you look up the manufacturers part number for the new bearing and seal which might make it easier to find. Thanks

not a lot of info for these, have no access myself and don’t know anyone that does. contact site shop as a first start about spares
As long as you can get the shaft seal the bearing will be standard just need to know the numbers or a local bearing supplier will be able to match or site shop your looking for something like 6205 6204 6206 etc there will be letters after that say if its open, metal shields or rubber shieldsif its really bad strip it first. if. that way its zero outlay till you find how bad things are

I have taken the rotor of the direct drive motor off for a look. I can see the bearing. Unfortunately no numbers visible on the face that I can see.
Am I correct that the sequence is split the outer drum casing, withdraw the drum from the inside and then remove the bearing?
I am not clear yet how t get the bearing out. I have a puller, but can’t immediately see how I could configure that. I am suspecting the bearing is in there damned tight. I don’t see I can apply heat either as it’s a plastic drum casing.
From what I can see there is an aluminium insert set into the plastic drum casing and the bearing is pushed into that.

correct once you get tub out
lever out the water seal and clean behind it
the bearings can be knocked out with a steel bar and a hammer, carefully. the rear one should be easy if there is any problems it will be with the inner one
tub is pretty, I have hit some of them very hard to get stubborn ones out so be firm. If bearing starts to move make sure it comes out straight. if one side moves more then the other reposition your bar to correct it
