ParticipantHello all, wondering if anyone could help me. Its a No-Frost model. The temp in the Freezer is only -5C when on max setting. I think there is only 1 thermostat in this and its in the Fridge, but the fridge temp is fine. If I turn it to min setting the temp rises in the fridge. So perhaps the thermostat is ok? I opened up the Freezer bit, the fan turns. I checked the cooling elements and they had very little frost on them, the machine does not sound like its on all the time. Maybe its the temperature sensor?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
–edit–
After putting the freezer back together I have now noticed a “tick” noise coming from the fridge thermostat which I am sure was not there before. I have not touched the fridge, so it seems to have developed since turning it back on. Now where to get one of these?January 15, 2005 at 4:39 pm #123690kwatt
KeymasterHi Sandman,
You haven’t got the machine in a garage or another cold place where the temperature is under about 10C have you?

Hiya kwatt, its in a coldish place but its been working fine for last 4 years. Im pretty certain the noise coming from the thermostat is the problem. I will need to take it out, I presume it has push-on connectors? First time I have opened a fridge-freezer.
I cannot afford to pay a huge callout fee as the cars engine has just frozen so need to get a new car 🙁

KeymasterOkay, if it’s not in a an environment that’s under 10C or so then it is most likely a system fault which is a specialist repair, not a DIY job I’m afraid.
If it’s one of the electronic contolled one though these can really throw you oout, even we get stumped by them at times and some of the weird and wonderful things they throw up, but again I would not recommend a DIY fix. And on those, “taking a guess” can be a very expensive route to take. 😕

hi,
If this is the approx 6ft tall fridge freezer with the freezer on the bottom, there is a fault you should look at.
The defrost element on these is too far away from the drain hole in the evaporator drip tray. This does ice over and then air flow restriction follows…..
Tell tale signs are frost appearing on the back wall and ice forming under the lower basket. If this is the case there is a cure involving an old length of thermostat capillary, which a good fridge man can do for you.
However you go…its not a DIY repair from what you have said so far.
