ParticipantHi Everyone,
I am new to this forum. Great to find it.My new whirlpool induction hob glass has been damaged I’d be really grateful if anyone can help with:
– How/why it has been damaged.
– Any thoughts on sorting it outI live in France but I think it’s a more general question which is why I am posting here.
I used my brand new hob for the first time on Christmas day with a brand new, induction suitable wok. I had it quite hot – I was stir frying – but nothing burnt. Then I started having quite a lot of smoke so I turned on the extractor fan and took the pan off hob.
I have been left with a large mark on the glass about the size of my palm which is that metallic pearly type look, and inside that a small piece of the wok surface (about 1/4 size of little finger nail) is stuck to the hob. On the Wok itself you can see a mark that matches the large palm sized mark and also the little “chip” where the surface is missing.
In France Whirlpool subcontracts technicians (I’ve had a lot of problems with other brand new whirlpool appliances I’ll post about sometime). The technician said he thought it was probably a faulty wok, but after he submitted his report whirlpool won’t replace the glass.
I spoke to a telephone operator after the technicians visit to find out what whirlpool had said, he basically accused me of lying about what the technician had said, although he hasn’t seen the hob himself and said it must have been my fault and nothing to do with the wok. He was also incredibly rude and wouldn’t let me speak. He said I must have had water under the wok – which I didn’t it was brand new as was the hob. But surely water wouldn’t do this anyway?! I can only wonder if it is either a faulty wok or because I used a wok on a large ring when obviously a wok actually has a small base, but if that was the case the ring shouldn’t have even worked surely?
I would really love any suggestions on
– how I might get these marks off (I have used lakeland hob heaven most days since)
– any thoughts on how this has happened : faulty wok? my fault? could water do this? I basically don’t want to damage it again!Sorry this is such a long post, I’ve tried to be clear and informative and thank you very much for any thoughts!

it does sound as if the wok may be the problem but I am not an expert just a repairer
did you ask the price of a new glass ?
if you post the model numbers and 12nc number if poss we can see if we can find a part number for the glass but they are not cheap normally
have you thought about contacting the wok manufacturer ?

Any spillage should be wiped away immediately. Water far less of a hazard than liquid containing salt or sugar. Spillage using a wok can be far more likely than other cookware especially the rigorous movement needed when distributing the ingredients. Has the wok got an induction symbol on the base or embossed stating ‘induction’ ? Have cleaning agents been applied to the glass prior to usage? Could you possibly take photos of the damaged area and the wok in question and download them using the ‘upload attachment’ facility (below)?

Thanks Dave,
They quoted 230€ for the glass….which I assume wouldn’t have included labour.
The model number is: ACM818/NE and I can’t find the 12nc number – could it be the equivalent of the SN ? If so then that is SN901742003123.
Out of interest would water on the hob cause this problem? I didn’t have any but I’m now terrified of anything boiling over!!
Thanks again
