ParticipantRe: Data
If “DATA” is a “Trade Spares Supplier” then why are they sponsoring via PUBLIC GENERAL ENQUIRIES and not a TRADE FORUM???
What’s going on? Have we been hacked again??Martin

KeymasterRe: Data
Martin surely a sponser can sponser whatever he chooses to…..
Why type cast…..
and besides now that the first sponser is on site ..it opens the path for others to follow(we hope)

ParticipantRe: Data
DATA are a trade spares supplier down this way in Yeovil.
Personally I don’t deal with them, I know Ken does though and has a good rapport with Paul who owns the company.
As Kevin says, the 1st of the bunch we hope.

KeymasterDATA’s website is not up and running yet, that’s why there’s no link yet to an external site. There will be a link to the details in the directory and Paul does also do a little bit of retail as well as selling of finished goods.
TBH, I did it as I was yapping on the phone and trying to get away as I actually went out away from any PC’s and had a night off. 😉

PS. It’s after midnight so my night off is officially over. 🙁

Very true and very welcome indeed, 🙂 I still wonder though why that forum was selected rather than the Trade only forums 😕

KeymasterSimple really, the public forums get a lot of attention and that is right at the top. 😉
The power of advertising eh, you all picked up on that pretty quickly. 😆
That page, just the forum index, recieves over 13,000 views per month on average and most of the public members will skip the trade forums as they are of no interest, as will a lot of trade members that have not requested access and, there’s quite a few of them.
Also, as I said, Paul will also supply to the public albeit at a price, so any retail business for him is a nice bonus and business he probably wants as he can actually make a decent amount on it.
All in all, pretty simple.

KeymasterWell there you go, sorted out a bit better using a link and the good old “ALT” tag!

Now there’s a thing 💡
Last Saturday when Kevin asked us if there was “any other points?” before closing the meeting I did have a thought, but kept it to myself as being too minor to warrant discussion 🙄
Anyway, being as I now have seen what you have done with the “DATA” logo (i.e Flagged mouse pointer note) Would it be possible using the same technique to ‘flag’ all the items in the ‘Navigation Bar’ ????
Whilst many are self explanitory, others like ‘Directories’ would be better if they would explain the content ‘before’ opening using this method???(i.e. Directories = List of agents and contacts. Reviews = Latest reports on appliances.)
Just another thought maybe 😯

Yep, I tend to agree Martin, most of the main nav menu is quite obvious what it is, “directories” or it’s predecessor isn’t descripitive enough to the average user IMHO.
Thoughts ?

KeymasterI probably could use the tags that way but in all honesty, it’s a messy way to do that. In fact, there’s very few nested navigation bars that aren’t messy IMHO.
The ALT tags are meant to replace an image if the file becomes damaged or lost as well as to offer easy navigation for the blind and partially sighted, it just so happens it can be put to other uses too as you can see. However I do take the pointthat as the site grows in particular that better help that is clearer may well be required, all I need is a few more hours in the day to do it! 😆
I will look into using the ALT tags, but I do think it would be at best a messy quick fix for the problem and a tad unproffesional to uses them that way, but that’s just my opinion. Plus most people tend to jump onto the site straight from the search engines and find what they were looking for, but they do also tend to have a look about from the feedback that we’ve had thus far so I can’t see it being a major problem for now.
We can all give it some thought though and any suggestions to make life easier I listen to and act on as required.
K.
