ParticipantHello
I have a De Dietrich oven
Type FM4445E299
No.99-48-04266
P.MAX 2.9
Constructeur 419I have emailed spares to find availability/price for a new element as the cooker is now very slow to warm up (30 min to get to 180 degrees).
I did get it replaced a few years ago (and had a hard job finding the part) by an oven repair man.
My question is – is replacing the element relatively straightforward (I am not trained but like tinkering with electrics and would ensure the oven is turned off at the mains and fuse box) or is it a big no no and should only be attempted by a qualified/trained person?
Many thanks

Hi Yogurt,
It is this fan element and it’s pretty easy to change without removing the oven.

Doing a bit more reading on this forum and it has occurred to me it might not be the element but the fan.
As well as the cooker being slow to warm up the fan makes a resonating noise for about 5 minutes when it is first turned on.
Could it be the fan needs replacing and in turn this has affected the performance of the element? If so is the fan also straightforward to replace?
Many thanks

Hi Yoghurt,
Yep, could be a fan motor fault and that could have led to element failure.
The fan motor, not so easy to replace yourself I’m afraid, it’s an oven out and strip off the back job.

So I spent Sunday morning learning whats inside my oven!
I was very cautious and tuned off the oven main switch at the wall, the circuit for the oven AND the main power switch for the whole house.
I managed to get the fan cover off to reveal the element and got the back of the oven off to gain access to the element screws-however I just could not get the retaining nuts off!! The nut was on each of the threads and because the threads were quite long I could not use my long nose pliers or socket set to get to it. Is there a special tool I need? It did occur to me I was trying to unscrew in the wrong direction (tried anti clockwise)
2nd problem was the fan I purchased was one of 2 possibilities and guess what-I think I chose the other one that did not fit! We purchased the oven around June 2000 so chose 76X3718 however it did not appear to be the correct one as I had to remove the 3 ‘spacers’ from the oven for the 3 legs of the motor to go through (which was fine and aligned no problem) but the screws from the spacers did not fit and the motor did not come with any. Apart from that it looked like the right one so should I have just got some different screws? The alternative motor is ref 77X3597 for ovens made after 27/6/2000 but this does not look right.
Must say I felt a bit like a gynaecologist trying to access parts of the oven!
The element did look pretty mucky. Our current motor makes a reverbating noise for a while when first turned on (although nothing obvious blocking it)-I guess a new motor would help with this
Any advice appreciated!
Cheers

ok 2nd Sunday and fan installed and working as well as new door seal
All I need now is to get the nuts off the long thread on the element
Having trouble finding the appropriate tool-some sort of socket set which is long and hollow? Or is it a special tool?
Any advice much appreciated
Cheers
