ParticipantHi all,
The grill in my select diplomat 620 oven has died. It made toast fine on Friday morning, but on Saturday morning just wouldn’t turn on.
All other funtions of the oven are still working as normal.
The grill element just doesn’t heat up at all, neither on half, nor full grill, no matter which temp I select from 1-5.
The lights behind the dials still switch on as normal.I have 3 questions:
1. Is it likely that the grill element has gone, or is it more likely to be something in the circuitry? Is there any simple way to check? I don’t have a resistence meter(if that’s what you call it!)2. If it is the grill element, can I replace it without pulling the oven out? There is a screw in the middle of it, on the Inside of the oven. If I can, I would do this myself.
3. If the whole oven needs pulling out to replace the grill element and I call someone out to fix this, how much is it likely to cost? I already know that an element is about £40, but have no idea how many hours of labour I’d be looking at.
Any help gratefully received! Thanks in advance,

Yes it is more than likely the grill element, but that is not a definate. As for do you need to pull it out, I would have said no ( due to the visible screw in the centre of the element) but then again that is not a definate , and last but not least the cost to replace would probably be around £40 – £50 + Parts + VAT.This should take no longer than about 1/2 – 3/4 hr.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply, it’s good to know that it won’t cost a fortune. Actually I could do it myself if it is just the element, especially since it can come out from inside.
However, the plot thickens. After messing up the settings on the oven timer and not remembering how to put it back, I switched the oven off at the fusebox in order to re-set the clock.
After this, the grill mysteriously worked again! It has then worked every morning from Monday-Thursday, but this morning has once again stopped working.
I have tried switching off at the fusebox again to see if that works, but this time apparently not. Oven and hob still working fine.
Does this shed any more light on whether the problem is more likely related to the grill element itself or to the internal parts e.g. switches? Thanks for any help!

can anyone shed any light on whether this is more likely down to the grill element itself or something else?
It did come back to life once before dying again, and since then it has not worked at all.
Thanks

Without testing the components electrically it’s nigh on impossible to say with any real certainty, it’d just be a guess.
Either the switch or the element could be faulty, I’d suspect the element but, like I said, it’s a guess.
