A few days ago my ISE W288 blew the breaker mid-wash. When I switched it back on, it said ‘wash motor fault’ and wouldn’t open the door, even after I’d drained it manually. I called a well-regarded local repair man, though he admitted to knowing nothing of ISE, and he declared that the motor was fine, the problem was with the power module/PCB, and because the lock was power operated, the only way he could release it was by forcing it. Having unsuccessfully tried to get a new PCB, he gave up. I then read the manual (I’m a bit slow sometimes…) and discovered the emergency door release, but I can’t get it to release the door – sigh! I now have a replacement machine, but I’m loath to just take it to the dump, since the repair man thinks everything but the PCB is fine. For the same reason, I don’t want to jemmy the lock. I tried advertising it on Ebay spares or repair for nothing, but nobody’s bitten so far. Any suggestions? I’d like my washing back…

if it went with a bang it might well have welded the lock shut

also the manual release has to be held with one hand while opening the door with the other

if that does not work try thumping the casing close to the door lock as it sometimes jars it loose and allows it to open but it wont unlock it so you still have to use manual release method

Never had a door lock do this. Is your emergency door release done by pushing the drum/door to the left to reveal the small slot for the emergency release slide to slot in. You don’t even need the small release slide/bar, a small teaspoon handle that will fit into the slot is just as good. The door is spring loaded so should pop open without having to pull it. The front panel does remove fairly easily if you are handy to allow more access to the door interlock.

Update: yesterday I gave up and jemmied the door. It came quite easily with no apparent damage, so the remaining question is whether anyone can make use of it or is it off to the dump at the weekend?
