I am helping a friend try to fix this washing machine it was working fine but it was washing in cold water perfectly ok, but was not heating so found a replacement thermostat (not exactly the same but fits in the space) and fitted it in and connected nothing except door click but the door was not locked l could open it,…. found out it could be door catch so replaced door catch,.. door catch seems to be working ie it clicks when the machine is switched on then normally the water enters but now still nothing if l switch off timer then the door wont open (normal) after a minute or two the door clicks and you can open however that’s all it does
Any suggestions

OK 1st: Are you sure of the make? never heard of a Beken machine.
2nd: Why did you replace the thermostat? did you test it first? Where is the thermostat mounted?March 2, 2011 at 10:39 pm #346051iadom

It looks as though you may be posting from Portugal.
Your machine will not be sold in the UK so unless we can identify who actually made it then there is very little we can do to help. 😥
Have you looked HERE to see if you can get a service manual?

100 {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} on the make,…I was told by a technician that the thermostat was the probable cause of the lack of hot water, yes i am posting from Portugal but basically a washing machine is a washing machine isn’t it

I have to say that i hardly ever use forums because the people that answer the questions very rarely want to help they just want have a dig at the stupidity of the posters, I’m not in any position smart ass l am asking for help … l KNOW all WMs are different in the way that all cars are different but don’t all cars use the basic ingredients Fuel, Water, Air
If the door latch is working and the machine does not go what then, if you’ve got a sensible answer then please give it, other wise don’t botherMarch 3, 2011 at 9:08 am #346056iadom

I sincerely hope that helo_75 and all of the other people who give up their valuable time to help answer questions on this forum will treat you with the disdain you deserve.
Your post is rude and arrogant.
If you actually took the trouble to read the many thousands of posts on the public forums you would see that your statement ‘just want have a dig at the stupidity of the posters’ is complete and utter nonsense.
Please try and be civil or go somewhere else.

Ok before we start, Iadom & Helo 75 are 2 of the most knowledeable & Helpful engineers around & do not deserve your comments.
Now as to your machine, I don’t know how your “Technicians” do things over there but over here we never advise changing parts without them being tested first.
You say you changed the thermostat & it’s not Exactly the same but fits in the space. Totally wrong especially in a modern machine, the machine is programmed to look for certain Resistances & Feedback from components & if not correct can do all manner of weird things.
If you do not have a Multimeter & know how to use it, then I would advise that you contact a “Technician” local to you & ask them to look at the machine for you, just fitting parts to a machine on the off chance is never a good idea & can cause further damage.March 3, 2011 at 10:40 am #346058scamperoo

Thanks specialist for the info very much appreciated
Of course the technician tested the thermostat that’s why we replaced it he couldn’ t get the part as the machine is old and there is no more parts so we went to a supplier repairer who is responsible for that brand and he supplied us with this new one l did ask if it mattered that is wasn’t the exact part and they told me no, so that’s why l replaced it. I have to say that l when it didn’t work with the new TS l put the old one back in with which it had been working fine days previously and still nothing. The TS sits in a rubber grommet which is located at the base of the drum
Sounds like it’s had it yeah?

If it was working but running cold before you changed the stat, have a look for any wires or connections you may have accidentally pulled off or loosened that could be causing your problem. You say of course the engineer tested the thermostat, you did’nt say that before you said the Technician told you that was the probable cause of your lack of hot water.

Ok sorry,
what happened was the machine was washing cold so we called a local tech from a repair shop who came and opened the machine tinkered with it for around 20 mins and said we would need a new TS.
Coincidentally l just got a message back from another spares supplier that they have got a new TS original part for this machine so will try that

To be honest without finding out why it does’nt work at all now, I would’nt throw any more parts at it. Have you seen the machine work at all since the local Tech looked at it, the thermostat will not cause a Dead machine.

Thanks I see your point but yes it was working before and after he diagnosed the TS after he diagnosed he reseated the TS while we waited for him to source a new TS and it was working fine but cold washing

I’m beginning to wonder what’s going on here, your original post said that after you found & fitted a thermostat the machine did’nt work except for a click from the Interlock. Now you say that an engineer fitted the thermostat & the machine worked but did’nt heat the water. It would have been quite easy for an Engineer to check if it was the thermostat faulty or not, if he knew what he was doing
