    Re: Dead washing machine

Ok l will start again it’s like this

The washing machine was working fine but we realised it was washing in cold water, I don’t know how long it had been doing this for but it was not heating (lets imagine this was on the 1st of Feb) so on the 2nd of Feb we called a local tech from a repair shop who came and opened the machine tinkered with it for around 20 mins and said we would need a new TS which he would order, on the 10th of Feb he called and said the part is no longer in production in Portugal so he suggested that we try an equivalent TS ( which looked very similar however it was marked at 60c where the original was 90c) during the period of the 3rd to the 10th of Feb we had been using the machine with the non working/heating TS perfectly well except it was cold wash. I fitted the new TS into the rubber grommet plugged in the machine the door clicked but nothing happened l switched off the machine the door clicked again and l was able to open the door. I decided to try the old TS which we had been operating the machine up untill this point however same result nothing happened except the door clicks .I researched the problem and it became evident that a faulty door lock could be the probable cause so l removed the lock only to find it very warm to the touch on the part of the mechanism we bought a new door lock fitted it yesterday turned on the machine the door clicked and the nothing happened l have checked the movement of the door mechanism and it seems to be locking as it will not open the door untill the machine has been turned off and the click is heard,….in the meantime ( on the 7th of Feb) we went to the shop where the WM was bought and they said there were no original TS available but they could order one from China but they didn’t know how long it would take well they called today 03 March and said we can collect it tomorrow. So l will collect it and try that

Apart from that any suggestions, hope this is made clear now

Logically either the new thermostat damaged the control unit or you have disturbed the wiring or you wired the thermostat incorrectly.

The chances of your door lock faulting at the same time you swapped the thermostat are pretty slim.

On some machines the motor wiring or motor being out of circuit can give you a door locking and nothing else happening fault.

Unplug electrically of course if you are going in.

Do any lights come on to show the door is licked or does’nt the machine have this facility? If you don’t have a Multimeter & know how to use it then this is about as far as you can go.

    Re: Dead washing machine

Tim yes l understand what you are saying

there were 2 wires going to the TS red was on the left and l think its a black one on the right which l made a note of,.. the white writing on the TS when l removed it was facing upward so I fitted the new one in reverse ie red on left other on right writing facing up. I asked the tech before l replaced it which way round the wires should go he said it wouldn’t make a difference?.

The lights come on there is an orange light but it’s not for the door l checked the door lock for current the blue wire had a current which l worked out was live so I put that to L the brown had no current so l connected to N and the 3rd was a double wire which had current and l connected to C

I don’t have a mutlimeter and don’t really know how to use one but I checked it with a screwdriver that lights up when you earth it with your finger

Have you checked that there are no loose or disconnected wires?. You should not be doing live testing in any form & definately not with a Neon screwdriver. Would suggest now that it’s time for you to call your local Tech back & let him sort it out.
