    Hi,

Would anyone know what plastic was likely to have been used for the freezer flaps, in a 20+ years old freezer? They’re all brown, transparent plastic and very cracked.

The freezer is by Ocean, though I don’t know the model no., as all the sections on the data plate on the inside of the top compartment, for the model no., serial no., etc, are blank, save for the name of the brand. I’ve researched Ocean and it seems to have been bought by DeDietrich, owned by Fagar Brandt – or something like that; not exactly household names, I know.

I want to glue/solvent weld some plastic onto the inner faces, to strengthen them, but am going round in circles trying to identify the plastic. There isn’t any triangular recycle logo anywhere.

I need to know the exact types of plastic they are, in order to find the correct adhesives. Apparently, they could be acrylic, polycarbonate or polystyrene. I keep staring at them in the hope I’ll have a eureka moment and realise which one it is. Daft.

A replacement lower compartment flap is about £45!

    Thanks for any help.
