ParticipantHello folks
I’ve got a problem with a Delonghi 903 gas oven.
The oven burner lights as expected however the oven doesn’t really get as hot as expected. Consequently the food takes an age to cook. What we have noticed is that the vent grills at the back of the oven behind the burners gets very hot so I guess that hot air is just being lost there. Also I suspect that one or both sprung hinges may need replacing as the door doesn’t seem to firmly close at the top as I would expect. I don’t think there is a circulating fan. I don’t know if there is a cooling fan – if there is, I can’t hear it running when the oven is on.
Any idea what could be going wrong?
Thanks

Moderatorthe temp of the oven is controlled by a temperature controlled gas valve
if this has failed then it will need replacing by a gas safe engineer

ParticipantThanks for replying.
Is there a way for me to be able to confirm that that is the problem?
The problem we have is that we can turn up the thermostat and we find that the bottom of the food cooks – in fact we find it actually burns but the top and the middle of the food just doesn’t get as hot as we would expect. Lots of heat seems to be ejected from the grills to the rear of the burners almost bypassing the food.
I’ve borrowed a thermometer and will try to see what temperature I’m getting. I’m almost minded to think that there seems to be an opening at the back/top of the oven letting all the heat escape. It’s like the heat is not being circulated properly. Also, is there likely to be a thermometer in the oven cavity itself? We find that the burner flames do reduce as the temperature increases so the gas valve must be working to some degree.
Thanks

Moderatoryou have to have a flue at the back of a gas oven to let out burnt gasses otherwise the flame would not burn properly which is dangerous.
set the stat on high. close the door give it 10 mins or so
then open the door a bit so you can see the flame and turn stat down and the flame should reduce
the same goes if you turn oven on regulo 2 then close door. take note of flame height as you close the door and check it 10 mins later and flame should be lower as it gets to temp

BlockedIt’s always frustrating when an oven doesn’t heat properly, especially during important cooking tasks. As someone who loves gambling, I often pass the time with the Chicken game casino which I have discovered here https://uk.notgamstop.com/mini-games/chicken/ while waiting for repairs or solutions. It’s a great way to stay entertained!
