    hi there please help me i have a diplomat apm8552 intergrated washing machine and it doesnt spin at all the drum wont turn and makes a horrible grating noise. i have had the back off and cleaned out the drain filter which was full off usual mess but the drain pump still makes a horrible noise. as i cant see a blokage anywhere can anyone help me fathem out why the drum wot spin? please help as i cant afford a new washing machine i am a mechanical engineer so i feel i can repair it myself if pointed in the right direction thank you for your assistance.

    Let’s seperate this out a bit…when you say the pump makes a horrible noise there may be a foreign object in it (strip it open and remove) or it may be that the pump is badly worn (strip it open and check for excess play by moving the impellor side to side…there should be little or no play)

    Given either of the two faults above, this would stop the machine draining which in turn would prevent it from spinning (not tumbling)

    If on the other hand the motor refuses to turn at any time then we’re looking at motor/module faults which is time to either get a meter out or an engineer in 😉

    i think that machine has an induction motor so it would probably be the capacitor if no motor action
    but as you say check pump first
