ParticipantJust repaired a fan oven for an elderly lady and she shows me her electric fire in the living room. Told me that she keeps on replacing the red bulbs at the bottom and could I put two new ones in as they keep going out?
Checked bulbs which were perfect plus her spare ones, all mains wiring ok and did a quick check with the mega. No problem found. She then brought in the remote and nothing happened but the receiver LED flashed and went beep ok. Turned off the mains then back on and remote turned on red light bulbs cooling fan and heater turned on. Great problem sorted and checked her remote AAA batts all ok.
Tried for the third time and no luck. LED coming on for the receiver and audible beep but no switching on for the bulbs and fan same result for the manual switch on the fire.
Never played with the electronics on these remote operated fires. Anybody got any ideas if the receiver pcb is down or the mains switching unit is duff and spare parts if possible?
Like to keep her happy if possible.FlyingBrick

Is it the one with the smoke effect with mist transducer in sump & water bottle to keep it filled, they won’t light up untill water level is sensed by float switch.
Will try to search for info for you.November 11, 2014 at 4:59 pm #421362FlyingBrick

Hi Seamy
No it is a standard unit with just a cylinder fan along the bottom and one 60 watt bulb holder each side of the fan. Just a bras effect casting at the font and around four years old. Price when new around the £400. Now selling for £350.
Receiver pcb could be part FP06008? Have not yet found the correct receiver pcb if that is the problem and assuming only one board for operation? Behind the front brass effect grill there is a thermostat dial and two rocker type switches in a plastic housing. One for power off and on RHS, and one to press for re set receiver if no remote hand unit used.
All guess work at the moment, will probably have to go back and take the Loxley back off to see what pcb’s are hidden away Seamy.

I am sure that I may have done a unit similar to this one (in my case a free standing version that had no life), if they are the same then you need to take the top off and slide the mirror glass up out of the unit to reveal the PCB mounted on the right hand side of the unit, if it is the same PCB as the one that I dealt with then it was the 680uF capacitor that had failed.

had one similar the other week board duff
shorted out main relay. found the thermostat part of the board still worked so customer very happy to use manually

Hope to get back tomorrow to get a better look.
As she is in her late eighty’s and can hardly move let alone bend down to manually turn the switch off and on I will have to get the pcb up and running for her with the remote.
It sounds like the board has discreet components so the soldering iron can come out for a repair if possible. Anybody know if the replacement board is FP06008 for the LXY15 Loxley model?
Thanks for your help on what to look for chaps.FlyingBrick

Collected electric fire and took off the receiver pcb and started to check it out. All caps and diodes found to be ok so unsoldered the relay off the board but that turned out to be ok with the coil at 1.58K ohms and the fire element at 42.6 ohms. No shorts to earth. Just the relay turning off and on slowly so not being given the full 24v DC?
Decided to stop playing with the FP06008 board and order a new one from Torreelectrics at £45 and hope that runs ok for the elderly lady. When I have some spare time I will set up the faulty pcb in my workshop with a PSU to see what does go down with these units after some 6-7 years of use.
Thanks chaps for your ideas.FlyingBrick

if you are saying the relay does not get enough voltage sound like a power supply problem

Could be Dave as sometimes the fan and lights come on then after 1-4 minutes all goes off and you cannot turn the relay back on?
Did check the rect bridge diodes and all the resistors on the board plus the capacitance of the caps which were all in spec. Will have a closer look once the new pcb turns up.
Relay turns off and on quickly when run up on a separate PSU from 18v – 24v dc no problem.Cheers Dave
