My Diplomat Fridge Freezer 6842 is playing up in as much that the freezer is working fine but the fridge is not very cold. After reading up on the forum it does look like it needs a new thermostat. Can you tell me how easy is it to fit a new stat?

    Many thanks John

John – Changing the thermostat is not too much of a job as long as you take things in stages with the power off. However, what you need to do is check and see if the appliance is switching on and off at all. On this unit the thermostat measures the temperature in the fridge although the priority cooling is in the freezer. If the temp in the fridge is not cold enough it could equally be that the compressor is failing or that the appliance is short of refrigerant. Equally, if your ventilation is not good, being a built in this could also be the cause.

Update on the thermostat is that I managed to take the sensor out of the slot that disappears into the back of the fridge. I left the fridge running with the sensor coiled inside the fridge and the compressor ran continuously and the back of the fridge froze up. I switched off the supply again and fed the sensor back doen the hole ane the compressor is not switching on and the temperaturs is starting to rise again.
