Diplomat 8512

Have a Diplomat 8512, will not spin, it acts as though the “NO SPIN” button is pressed in, but I’ve disconnected the button and also bridged it out, which makes no difference. I,ve fitted a new module (from EMW) but still no spin, I did squeeze up all the edge connectors. The heating element checks out OK. It has a induction motor fitted. Please has anybody got any ideas where I go next.

There is no pressure hose blockage. Is the Pressure Switch a one level switch as I only get one click when I blow up it ?

Have you checked the windings on the motor, with it being an induction motor it has two windings, one set for spin and one for wash also check the start capacitor is OK. Finally, make sure the belt is very tight.

Motor seems ok it speeds up ready to spin so I think the spin windings are OK, worth a check though, the capacitor is OK as it serves for the wash windings as well and there is nothing wrong with wash side. Think I’ll go for the pressure switch, but keep the motor in mind, bet they cost an arm and a leg.

Check the belt too as these will not spin at full bore if the belt is not really tight

Well the Belt looked tight although I never checked it, I will now check that, never known that to be a problem before though. Still at this stage I’ll believe anything.

Don’t know if this is one of these machines that has to have a full load in before agreeing to spin?

They do have a habit of not spinning without clothes in but also as said before belt must be tightened and then try with 3-4 towels and should spin. 😀

have you left it long enough? they take an age to spin and you must start the spin prog exactly on the start of the programme. one click past it and it will not spin, ideally start it on the end of the rinse programme and let it run through. Should be a good 3-4 minutes of pump and fwd/reverse drum action before it will ‘pause’ (all goes quiet, no pump, no drum action and no timer motor even- this phase often confuses engineers but it is normal) after around 30 secs the machine will re start and should then ramp up to a slow, brief spin. after that it will progressively lead up to the full spin. Dont be tempted to speed up the programme by advancing the knob and if there is even a hint of out of balance it will skip the spin altogether. test empty to be sure, if it spins as above then it will be ok. IMO and assuming the pressure chamber is clean- Give it a squeeze, think milking a cow!.
I have never had a belt issue causing no spin and feel it is an urban myth. IMO!

We get loads here with blocked pressure systems usually through soap over-dosing (same old suspect customers each time). If you ever get the sump hose off (total pig to refit BTW so don’t unless you really have to ) you’ll see the pressure hose end has quite a small aperture with a kind of flap too.
I usually manage to clear them with perseverance by squishing the hose while the machine is full of water…the really bad ones take a couple of attempts draining and refilling with clean water each time….

Thanks for all the help, I told him it would need a new motor in the end, at £179.00+VAT, I should think he did say no thanks.
