I have a Diplomat 8552 which has just starting thumping and banging on fast spin.
I emptied the machine and suspect it has been overloaded since there were a few heavy towels mixed in with jeans and other stuff.
I ran the machine while empty on a slow spin (500) and could see through the door the drum appears out of balance. There were no abnormal mechanical noises other than I could now hear the drum rubbing on the door seal.
On completion of the cycle, I noticed there was faint smoke coming from the machine which I assume was coming from the door seal.
After removing the top and rear coverplates, I inspected the top springs which are intact and appear in good condition. The lower suspension struts are intact and still attached at both ends but I can’t vouch for their condition.

Does this sound like it is the lower struts that have failed or need replacing or is there a more common problem with this model?
If it is the struts, how easy are these to source and replace?

Thanks in advance for any help?

    Check the bearings.

    Thanks for the reply kwatt.

How do I know if it’s the bearings that are gone?

I’ve replaced and cleaned out various bits on previous washing machines before but am an amateur at diagnostics.
