ParticipantHi I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction ?
I have a Diplomat ADP 8243 which has just stopped working properly & trips the socket circuit in the house.
I switched it on the other day and I always wait for the beep & for what I assume to be the pump starting up before walking away, this time there was a noise that resembled an electric motor which was jammed and no pumping sound, so I switched off & tried again, this time the noise wasn’t as prominent and the cycle seemed to start ok. 5 mins later my daughter came to get me saying the trip had gone in the house, when I went in I could smell something hot opened the door the dishes where dry there was some water in the bottom and the element was obviously very hot.
I have removed & cleaned the pipe from the pump to the waste & checked that that pump impellor turns by hand, checked the impellor on the other pump turns by hand checked for breaks in the wiring at the bottom of the door.
Don’t appear to have any fault codes on lcd display .
Initially it seems to fill the plastic reservoir on the side of the unit & then that drains off somewhere then thats it !
Hope someone can help 😕April 23, 2008 at 11:49 pm #250163Penguin45

Too many possibilites……… It’s a SMEG machine, so the standard fault is the mains suppressor blowing up. The machine can run, but won’t work properly and may trip the electrics as the electrical load increases. Heater, start/run capacitor, circulation motor, soap dispenser are all suspects for short circuits.
Your final comment about it filling then emptying is interesting; it suggests that the water level control is not working correctly. This can be caused by blockages in the air pressure system – unfortunately it can also be caused by a failure in the computer board leaving the fill valve open.
This is a technically complex machine. You need a test meter and the skill to use it to eliminate individual components from the puzzle. If you can’t do this, I can only suggest getting professional help.
If you plan on investigating further, ensure that the power is off for anything other than observation.

Hi thanks for your reply
I removed the main pump/motor to check that it would turn freely, which it did, in doing so I noticed that what I pressume is the capacitor on the side of it with feeds going to it, had a blob of melted plastic on one side of it,this was about the size of pea ! I take it this isn’t right ? Is this the suppressor you were talking about ?.
Put it back together & started cycle again and the noise seemed to becoming from that area & also the motor wasn’t turning but was getting hot to the touch !
Does this suggest to you the capacitor & or motor could be at fault ?
