ParticipantI have been having difficulties with this dishwasher for some time , basically had to keep re-setting the timer but could always get it to work , even if only for some time until the next reset was required.
I have fitted a new controller and this works OK , at least I can change programs alright and there are no E codes- the trouble is nothing happens when I shut the door. I have put the old timer back and now that does the same thing-nothing happens.
I have checked with meter the door switch- it is fine , I know the connections off by heart now so I am sure its not something I have misconnected . I cannot believe that something new went wrong the minute I fitted the new controller.
So now I have a machine with no error codes that won’t even start ..!
Help please

I hate to say it, but the chances are that the original timer was not faulty.
I looked back your previous post and there’s several things that could have been causing the issues that you’ve got. The thing is and, when selling spares I get very dispondent about repeatedly telling people this, the timer is NOT the first thing that you assume is the point of failure. It’s the last, as it’s generally one of the two most expensive spares in a dishwasher, or washing machine, that you can buy and blindly replacing it, more often than not on a “guess” will not cure the problem.
Not guessing at the fault is exactly what you pay an engineer to do.
I’m sorry if that sounds like a lecture, it’s not intended to be, it’s just the way I see things after more than 20 years in this trade.
I’d be looking at the stats and the door harness in your case first however, as you state that the fault was intermittant the probability is that you’ve replaced the timer due to a broken wire in the harness. There are a plethora of other faults that could cause the problems described, but that’d be my favourite and, you may even find, that it’s the mains feed up that’s goosed.
A word of warning though, if you are unsure, call an experienced appliance engineer as it’s often a false economy not to do so and if you are going to tamper with the harness ensure that you disconnect the appliance from the mains and test that it is electrically safe before re-connecting it. You won’t be thanked for saving a few quid if some poor person gets electrocuted.

Thanks for the help. I take both your points – try to get someone that knows what they are doing round our way !. First guy won’t touch it – told me to get extra care , second guy (I now know) tried to reset the heater thermostat , gave up and told me the controllers were rubbish. I then used this site to look for service engineers in my area – there are none. Yellow pages are no help – most of the enegineers will only travel to their back doors.
Even then I didn’t fall for it but after using this site for info managed to get it going again by re-setting the timer control- but the controller was all over the place but I could get a good wash out of it.
All I did was replace the timer , carefully – nothing else.
The loom looks fine but impossible to test.
I think you are right though about a break – but I don’t know enough to test teh machine. All the stats are open circuit which my italian circuit diagram seems to suggest is right. It would help me if I could get an English diagram –

KeymasterIt’s Italian made, no chance of an English diagram hence I’m fluent in Italian wiring speak. 😉
What’s your postcode there and we’ll see what we can do for you?

When you changed the timer it’s possible you’ve bumped the door lock into it’s closed position. This would make the timer unresponsive when the door was open i.e. you wouldn’t be able to select a program.
Power off please :plug:

The door lock is the one thing I am sure about – I know it switches neutral to all the gear – I have tested it almost to destruction ..! It is OK

Eureka
It isn’t possible to connect the blocks wrongly on the controller is it – well that what I did – the two larger ones will interchange – I thought one was tight but it went in with a bit of a push. I counted up the wires and terminals and realised what I had done – changed them over and everything works fine.
Just to check having carefully marked the blocks I put the old controller back to see if I had wasted my money and the old fault came back ( unable to set the program without re-setting teh controller).
I couldn’t believe that this was possible with the slots and bars in the PCBand connector blocks but it is. Anyway all is well thank goodness. Thanks for your help.

And the small one will often pop back off the board upon fitting due to the short wire.
Glad you got it sorted – just goes to show how a simple mistake can lead to endless frustration (or a junked machine).

Yep – I spotted that one – you have to make sure it is wedged by the casing when you screw the cover on the controller.
