I posted here last July when my dishwasher was only a few months old and playing up big time…. got a very quick and helpful answer from Dave Conway – thanks again Dave. I then got a truly excellent engineer, sig looks like A Healy no 9013 from MFI (I’d bought it from Howdens and MFI seem to deal with the warranty). Machine worked well since his visit in July.

So here I am again with another question now that the blasted dishwasher has stopped working again a couple of weeks after it is out of warranty!

The problem this time is that it goes on, and on, and on. Hours after it is started, no matter what wash setting is used, it is still going but with no end in sight. My suspicion is the thermostat, it’s as though it never reaches temperature. I have to open the door (the water is cold and there’s a few suds at the bottom but the dishes are still dirty) and do a rinse only setting to get it to stop.

I have been quoted today £70-90 callout plus parts plus labour from MFI, though they seem to be going to use an ‘agent’.

My question is… can I do anything to deal with the problem if it is the thermostat, e.g. is there some sort of reset switch somewhere? If not, should I get the callout or should I cut my losses given the comments I’ve seen about this model on the board? I phoned up for an extended warranty just after the year was up and just before the blasted thing broke down, but no-one has returned my call or written to me as promised.

Thanks again for the help on this board and look forward to a response.

The Haier Chinese dishwasher….. There was an endemic failure of safety thermostats on these (usually caused by 3 in 1 tablets), so that is the most likely culprit.

    Hi Penguin45

Thanks very much for the quick reply….

The engineer who came to fix it the first time it broke down warned me off tablets and I’ve only used powder ever since. Is there anything I can do about the thermostat?

    Hi Chrissie,

Penguin is probably right but there’s a few things that it could be, the thermostats being the most obvious.

In all honesty I wouldn’t advise that you try to DIY it on this machine, I’ve only been to a dozen or so and managed to gain a desperate loathing of them from that experience alone. They are not the easiest to work on, even for us and the recall rate on them is high, so much so that we try to turn the work away, it’s just not worth the hassle. The machine is brought into the UK under several brand names with one manufacturer reckoning that >40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of them failed within the first year, not good at all, in fact it’s a shocking failure rate.

As the old adage goes… you get what you pay for. 🙁

    Thanks for your reply K.

Engineer came this morning from NWAR, couldn’t have been more helpful and sorted out the problem – a reset cos the trip switch had blown due to overheating. It’s now working perfectly, touch wood. I see what you mean about not a DIY job though – what a palaver to get to the switch and no wonder you loathe them! Was very impressed indeed with NWAR, from the initial phone call from them through to their engineer’s expertise today.

Thanks to the board once again, it’s been very helpful.
