    Advice please

Last night we switched on this 2 year old electic oven and it tripped out the main ring electrics.

I waited until over appliances had finished (Washing machine etc) – and changed fuse – but it still trips.

Previously we have lived with a really noisy fan – sound (almost a rattle) builds up hugely until cooker is hot enough then quietens down (but is still quite noisy) – fan runs to cool for 10-15 mins once its switched off.

What is the best course of action? I’m not skilled enough myself to tackle this but can get jobbing mates in if its a simple part switch over.

not sure if its an element tripping it out or is it the fan?

    should I go ..

    – CORGI engineer?
    – Local electrician?

Basically if repair is anything over £125 or so – we feel we might as well cut loose on this oven and get a new better one. SOund mad – but sometimes you get the feeling its best to move on.

    any nuggets welcomed !

    Update on this ….

Having read some other issues on similar models I tested the oven just by having the grill section on and this worked okay.

I then turned the switch to one of the oven settings and it blew.

I presume this confirms that it is the main cooker heating element thats the problem? (and seperatetly I have a dodgy fan issue to sort out)

    Again – any advise welcome

sounds like you’re on the right track…BUT check the whole circuit, you’ll feel a right narner if you replace the element and then find a wire had come off and shorted to earth /faulty thermostat /thermal trip ????? 😛
