can anybody help me? I have a Diplomat Range 850 (ADP5426). The top oven is hot even though the switch is turned off. I have changed the switch (£72 ouch) but it is still the same….. any ideas????

Earth leak through element most likely – you’ll need a megger to check for sure.

If you can’t do this, use the Repairs@ link for an engineer in your area. It may well work out cheaper than throwing parts at the machine.

    Power off, if investigating.

carvsx, I’m just wondering if you ever got to the bottom of this. I have the same cooker, and am suffering with a similar problem in the main oven.

I’m not convinced about earth leakage in my case, because the oven will heat up to around 40 degrees or so, and then the thermostat will kick in and switch the element off.

I’m also fairly sure that the oven is overheating (so when you set it to 70, say, it’s more like 200 inside).

I’m guessing it’s either the control or the thermostat – unless there’s an adjuster to zero-in the existing control?

(Oh, and there aren’t any UKWG approved engineers in my area)

    Thanks for your help,

    P.

Thermostat’s probably a good bet from your description. P/no 062082369700 – an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering.

Yahooo I seem to have confirmed that there may be an issue with AEG ovens.

I have an AEG Complement oven which has two problems:

    1. All the control knobs are broken – the metal strips have broken and fallen out – £9 each to replace. Neighbours have similar issues.

    2. The top oven stays on once switched off. The oven has to be isolated at the wall to stop it.

Small claims court and Sale of Goods Act here I come.

Can anyone else confirm age and mdel details please?

Ooops – typed this whilst at work and was trying to remember details. Obviously got that wrong. My apologies.

    AEG Competence model D2160-1m
    PNr 944171152

I will now do a search on this particular model.

Re: Diplomat ADP5426 Heating up when not turned on

    Hello

Has anybody got some up to date information regarding this issue please? I also have a Diplomat range style oven, and the top oven is heating up as soon as I turn the power on. Like somebody has already suggested, I also have to isolate the oven whenever it isn’t in use.

It is a Diplomat ADP5426 – unsure of the age as it is second hand and came with the house 12 months ago…

Any help / advice greatly appreciated.

I also have this problem (never buy on ebay without fully testing!) so it seems to be a common failure on this model. This thread is pretty ancient, so it seems that no-one so far has cracked it.

I’m a reasonably competent electrician and could probably diagnose whats happening if I could get at the rear of the controls (I also need to fix the griddle). Does anyone know how to take the upper front area apart to gain access to the control units?
