I had a terrible smell in the kitchen and it seemed to be coming from the dishwasher, i removed the kicklpate and removed the black plastic panel at the front of the machine. i noticed there was stagnant water in what appeared to be a plastic drip-tray, i pulled this plastic drip-tray down and it “popped” out. i emptied the stagnant water away and cleaned the underside of the machine with a cloth as best i could. i have tried to remove the large filter plate inside the machine but i do not know how to take this out!! can anyone help me with this problem, the smell is still present and i have tried using a dishwasher cleaner.why does water collect in the bottom drip-tray and how do i clean the main filters??

Hi , i know it sounds obvious but the base is filling up with water because you have a leak coming from the dishwasher. This “drip tray should never have water in it , you need to find that leak (possibly caused by a mouse would also explain the smell) Turn off the power, lie the dishwasher on its back and get your fingers round all the pipes and see if you can feel its wet,a hole in a pipe or if you can see where a leak is coming from (be careful of sharp metal edges there are lots). As to the Filter , twist the round piece that goes through the middle of it and it will release the filter. Hope this helps . please let me know how you get on .

    Hi Brian,

I can’t tell you where the leak is obviously but, these may help…

    Basic dishwasher fault finding

General dishwasher maintenance which shows how most filters work.

    Smelly dishwashers
