KeymasterWe have had the heating element and thermostate replaced but the error code E3 is still coming up which stands for the water not heating. Any ideas???? or do I need to give up and buy a new one ?? We have had this one for 5 years

Other symptoms which can cause an E3 fault on this machine include:
Faulty electrical connections. Usually worn/broken at the bottom of the door.
Spray arms not rotating freely
Motor (wash pump) failed
Timer failed
If it’s the timer or the motor then you’re looking at an expensive repair (parts £100 +)
Faulty wiring should only be looked at by a professional
Check the spray arms rotate (they also detach easily for cleaning). If that doesn’t improve matters then you’ll need an engineer to correctly diagnose the faulty component.
Try repairs@ for a local engineer

Have you tried resetting the thermostat for the heating element? You will need to:
1. Unplug
2. Get access to the bottom of the unit and remove the panel (held in by clips)
3. The thermonstat is located about 4inches back from the heating element connections (front right, when looking into the bottom of the unit). If it is resettable, then there will be a red button that needs to be pressed.
4. Turn off water, remove the inlet pipe from the back of the unit and make sure the filter is clean.I have just had the same problem but still not sure why the thermostat tripped in the first place.

Thermostat was replaced

Cutlery luing across the element, especially near the thermostat, is a prime suspect for this. Check that your cutlery baskey isn’t letting anything slip through or that long knives aren’t getting knocked out of the basket by the spray arms.

Thanks for the info (Being the dork that I am, I only noticed the first guy had had the thermostat replaced AFTER I had submitted the response).
I wondered whether my trip-out was caused by shortage of water since the limescale that had built up on the element had fallen off – a classic sign of element overheating I think. I have since cleaned the inlet filter (which was not clogged).
BTW my 8224 is >5 years old and (touch stainless steel) is still going ok apart from the minor issue with the thermostat tripping.

Oh yes, I just remembered something.
About 1-2 years ago, I switched from using salt/detergent/rinse aid to using the 3-in-1 tablets. This was because of a rather bizarre occurrence. On several occasions when using salt, a loud bang came from the dishwasher during the drying stage. This rather alarmed me but since using the tablets it has not occurred since. (Note when I had the machine on its side recently, I could see no obvious signs of any blast damage).

I think everybody on here would recommend switching back to powder, salt & rinse aid since the 3-in-1 tablets give a ‘one size fits all’ dose which may not be appropriate for your machine and/or area.
I’m not at all sure what the banging might have been, and I can’t think of any link to using salt that may have caused this. Usually banging is caused by something floating around inside it (lightweight plastic containers are good for this) which get clattered by the spray arms.
Blast damage? 😯
Let’s hope not.Craig

Ensure that all the holes in both spray arms are clear as poor water circulation will cause nuisance tripping of the cut-out 😉
No idea what the bang noise was though :con:

Ok thanks again for the info – I will have a closer inspection of the blades.
I cannot understand either why a dishwasher would create a bang noise – I did not know whether it was possible for pressure to build up in the salt container?

Hello
I had the same problem. I changed the timer module 3 buttons and it’s fine now. The problem was that relay on the board burned and not hot water !
I found the spare board on http://www.interspares.co.uk/
good luck
😛 I don’t do it by hand now !

KeymasterJose,
The PCB is very often NOT the cause.
Apart from which I don’t suppose that you work for Interspares as you seem awfully keen to promote them?
