ParticipantHello there, my 5 year old Diplomat ADP8242 Dishwasher runs constantly.
After checking here it seems to not be heating the water.
So, out with the screwdrivers and multimeter. I checked the element and got a reading of 27 ohms across it, next I checked the main thermostat (the one by the element) this gave a reading of 0 ohms. next I dismantled the door to access the programmer and door thermostat. The door thermostat gives a cold reading of 15 Kohms which falls as the thermostat is heated. Does anyone know if these readings are correct??
Oh also, before I got this far, I connected my meter to the element and monitored it whilst the machine was running. at the point where it gives 2 bleeps and starts again, there was a “pulse” of mains voltage applied to the element as though it was trying to heat but was being told to stop. Many thanks in advance for any information

The “main thermostat” is a safety thermostat, which should be normally closed. Yours is open circuit, cutting off the supply to the heater.
The thermostat in the door is a thermistor and is behaving correctly.
Please don’t live test – circuit chasing would have revealed this.

Hi there and thanks for getting back to me, sorry, I was not very clear about the action of the main thermostat, it is actually reading Zero ohms i.e. Short cct. I did suspect that the door ‘stat was a thermistor but wanted confirmation before buying another.
Looks like it may be the programmer then??January 21, 2008 at 12:43 am #240025Jonesy75

Was there any confirmation of this as I seem to have the same issue – Dishwasher constantly cycling but not getting hot?
