Hi, this is an integrated dishwasher, probably around 10 years old, possibly a SMEG underneath(?).

Anyway, recently when we open the door to unload it we sometimes find that there is still (dirty) water at the bottom and the display is blank, instead of the expected end of cycle P0 that we were hoping for. The power button would still be pressed in so we’d de-press it, press it in again and select the P0 program to empty the waste water and finish the cycle immediately. This has worked fairly well until the other day when we opened the door to find the display blank but the button stuck in, meaning we couldn’t then de-press it, press it again and clear the program. However, it was possible to press the button in a tiny bit further to get it to display the program but upon letting go of the button the display would go blank again. As the dishwasher is integrated I am unable to hold the button down to finish the cycle so had the “clever” idea of simulating the door being closed by poking in the little catch at the top of the door. This had the desired effect of allowing the machine to drain the water and finish the cycle, however I am now stuck with a door that has had the catch pressed in so won’t close onto the body of the machine!

So, I have 2 problems that I need help with, if you’d be so kind. Firstly, the problem with the button sticking in and the display being blank and secondly with the catch being pushed in and so being unable to shut the door properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as would an idea of how much it might cost to put right and so whether it is worth repairing or whether we should look at getting a new one.

    Update

I have used the advice found elsewhere on this site and have managed to prise out the door catch using 2 small screwdrivers.

After pressing and wobbling the stuck-in button repeatedly I have managed to free it up. Not sure why it was stuck down but I seem to be able to switch it on and off now, although I’ve not tried a wash cycle yet…
