I have to go out to a Diplomat ADP8342. The owner is complaining that it works absolutely fine in every event type except that it will run for hours .. all day if she leaves it to. (Not switching to drain .. however drains if drain selected)

    Heats OK
    Washes OK
    Drains OK

Has anyone a service manual for one of these please?

Who says it’s heating? Are you taking the customer’s word for that, over the phone? :rolls:
Another possible that springs to mind is siphoning. But that would be less likely.
If neither of those then there’s only timer, unless someone else has any other ideas.
Is it one of those old Servis machines?

Hi Mike… This is one os the old MFI machines so yes, proberbly Servis, but can’t guarantee that…

Customer say that when she opens the door it is steaming hot, a woft of steam rushes out of the door.. (Maybe thermister is not sensing temp) …
Can’t see it being a syphoning problem as it would have never worked properly in the first instance….
Didn’t think it would be the timer as it is electronic (so I believe) and for all other programs to work except one is not the norm in this case….

Service manual would be grat at this point ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice to hear from you Mike… Hope you are well ๐Ÿ™‚

Definitely sounds like overheating. Depending on age it may be a straightforward thermostat as opposed to an ntc. Has she tried / is it possible to select a rinse only or cold wash programme?

    Went to this dishwasher tonight…

Customer is right, the intensive program is heating the water and washing, but not progressing through the wash to the next stage, drain…

All other progams are completing all phases of their wash.

The only thing I can think is maybe there is a sensor for the heat somewhere on the machine and that it may not be detecting the heat correctly.

And all that time I thought we were talking about a washing machine :rolls: .
How is it so many of you seem to think that everyone knows every model of every make and does not need to be informed of the type of appliance that is being referred to? It doesn’t make all that much difference in the context of this particular query but sometimes I’ve wasted my time in a fruitless search for parts. For example, looking on Connect and only realising that I was looking under the wrong appliance type when I did not find the model under washers.
It’s one of the reasons I’ve gone off this site a bit recently.

But as I have said, all the other programs work perfectly..

The only diference with the intensive IMO is the temp increase for hotter wash and length of program….

    Any other ideas?

Does anyone know if these have a separate temp sensor?

    Re: Diplomat ADP8342

If it uses conventional thermostats which use a bimetal and go click ๐Ÿ™‚ then yes there will be a different one for each temperature. If it uses a thermistor (aka ntc) it will probably only have one.
I would have thought you would have known that ๐Ÿ˜• .
I think some old ADP’s are Whirlpool and the stats are clipped in just behind the front baseplate to the left of centre, so easy to get at. I’ve had them go intermittent which could give the very symptoms you describe. Only substitution can really nail it. Live testing is the quickest way to find out which stat is being used when, unless you can get the info. (Which I have very seldom had. But paucity of info. is a great motivator for the mind.)
    Mike.
Edit: Tried a search on Connect for parts for this one and nothing comes up under tempearture or thermostat or ntc.
Then, tried a search on Google, “ADP8342 temperature” and first two hits are from public forums on here! Second hit, last post asserts

no! it’s not a fault! just make sure there is salt in it! this happened to me too!”
    ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ˜•
But if that doesn’t sort it you could have a look further down the page.

Yes Mike I always thought that there should be either two or three thermostats but I couldn’t find the second one on this machine (which is why I asked).
I lost my glasses last week so having to use a rubbish set until my appointment next week doesn’t help. ๐Ÿ™

Your find does help though as the salt light is on on this machine even though the machine has salt in it.

    Cheers Mike
