I have a Diplomat ADP8342 slimline dishwasher (yes, I know – worst dishwasher ever built!).

I set it going on the “light wash” programme, which is supposed to wash at 50C and rinse at 55C – 2 hours later I found it still going with condensation all over my kitchen. The heating element had been turned on the whole time and the water was boiling (I have a power meter on my home’s electricity supply that gives me a graph of the power consumption and shows that it was drawing about 2KW for the whole 2 hours, rather than cycling the element on and off to maintain the proper temperature!)

This has happened to me once before but doesn’t seem to be a regular occurrence. I obviously want to fix the problem though since on both occasions the very high water temperature has damaged some of the things being washed.

What could be the problem? I’m not sure where to look for the thermostat – the only thing I can see is the cut-off switch just under the element which appears to just interrupt the power to the element rather than actually providing any temperature feedback to the electronics. Also, shouldn’t the cut-off have at least cut the power to the element since the water was so hot?
