Diplomat AHY32 oven cutting out

Turn oven on by selecting 200C. Fan starts up and oven begins to heat up. After several minutes the whole oven shuts down. Several minutes later everything starts back up again. The cycle then repeats itself.

Is this a problem with the oven thermostat or is there a thermal switch fitted to this oven?

Presumably some sort of safety cut-out at work. If the oven is still at a low temperature, this will be faulty.

Will need the rest of the model number to try and identify for you.

Thermal limiter is p/no 117OTHERMP114.

Check the main oven thermostat as well to make sure that’s not causing it to overheat and trip out.

I have removed the switch and joined the two wires together (in effect bypassing the switch). The oven now heats up to 200C and maintains this temperature without the oven completely shutting down. This would seem to indicate a faulty thermal switch – just need to order a replacement.

As an aside can anyone explain how these thermal switches work?

Bi-metallic device – different rates of expansion between the two layers of metal cause it to bend and operate the switch.

I would look at the cooling fan before doing anything else,to check its coming on.

Virtually all the problems I have had like this have been cooling fan related.
