Diplomat APM 8703 – Type of Drier

Can someone please help

I’ve inherited a kitchen with a diplomat APM 8703 Washer/Drier. The washing machine is OK but the drier seems very poor and also the user manual is not particularly helpful.

Does anyone know whether this model has a condensor or is externally vented? – there is no sign of either in the instructions or on the machine. If it has a condensor how do I empty it?

Brief history lesson first, these washer dryers were designed to be used in flats etc where an outside wall was not available for a conventional vent hose to be ducted. ie tis better to have poor drying than NO drying. They are a compromise of a washing machine and a condenser drier. Usually, you are not able to dry a full load of washing but have to split the wash load in two drying loads. Whilst they do work after a fashion, they are not overly good at drying clothes. Moving on – this model uses a condenser drying system but unlike a stand alone unit the condensed moisture is pumped out via the washing machine drain hose. No tanks to empty. Hope that helps

If I wanted to replace it with another washer/drier with an effective drier what would you recommend for say under £500?

Personal view – I wouldn’t entertain a washer dryer, I would go for a decent washer and a seperate dryer, you might have to spend £550 on the two but if you do your homework you would be able to get both with a two years parts and labour cover.
