ParticipantRecently noticed that that our diplomat APM8502 did not drain very well, so followed the suggestions on here, cleaned the filter and draining does not seem to be a problem anymore.
However, since we moved it a bit before we found the filter it now has another serious problem: it overfills. Once started it fills up right to the soaptray and further from there – obviously this is where we fast forward the program and during the last spin it will get rid of most water.
What could be wrong that causes this, where to find it exactly and what to do about it please ?
I read something about water level controller here and elsewhere, but where to look for this brand/type washing machine in particular ?
All help is appreciated ! Thanks in advanceApril 2, 2008 at 12:59 am #247602aqualectric

This machine has a pressure switch to control the water level. The small hose that links it to the pressure pipe on the sump hose may have:-
1) Pulled off the pressure switch. Power off! :plug: Remove the lid. At the back corner of the machine is a round device with wires connected and a black rubber hose pushed on underneath it. Check it is fitted on tightly.
2)The pressure hose is blocked. Power off! :plug: Tip the machine back and support against a wall so it cannot slip and fall on you. 😉 The sump hose is underneath and runs from the filter housing to the drum. Where the hose joins the drum there is a second branch leading to a white nozzle that has the other end of the small black rubber hose from the pressure switch connected to it. This pipe could be blocked with sludge. Remove the white nozzle and with a small wet bottle brush, clean out the hose, refit the white nozzle and stand machine down. Check for correct function and leaks.
This type of blockage is usually caused by not regularly cleaning the filter. 😉Remember – Power off and unplug before any inspection.

Steve.

Thanks very much for your answer.
The actions mentioned in your second point helped – it was full of sludge.
Probably had to do with not regularly cleaning out the filter indeed. It seems to work fine now, though there was one thing that worried me. To be able to remove the white nozzle I had to cut through a cable tie and unfortunately it appeared that I did make a small cut in that hose just underneath where the nozzle connects in the process. After I cleaned out the hose (using a camelback hose cleaning brush!) I did put the white nozzle back in a bit deeper so the cut in the hose was just where the nozzle is rather than underneath it. I then fitted a new cable tie around it (maybe a hose clip would be better and I don’t understand why there wasn’t one there originally). Now my question is: would it in time be a problem if there would be a leak at that position as am I correct in thinking that the water gets that high only very briefly for a few times during the programmes after which the water supply is stopped immediately as it has reached the desired level ? In other words: is it correct that there will not be loads of water flowing through the top of that tube ? It seems not to leak at the moment – does the tubing need replacing perhaps and if so is this an easy job or not ?
Thanks again,

Probably best to re-new the hose. Pushing the hose coupling further in reduces the volume of the air chamber, which in turn will affect the water levels.
It’s THIS ONE.

Thanks, just under 12 pounds including postage. The connection to the drum and filter looked a bit tricky to redo, or is this not too bad ?

if we talking about the sump hose as linked in post above yes it sucks to do ,
A tip put hose in very hot water for few mins to soften it up some, that will help to place it in the hole at botton of machine, manufactures use a sealant golden colour u see remains of it on edge, most likely u won,t need to use any tho should be a good tight seal with out.
if the lips of seal are nice and neat and level and look right and it leaks u need to run some sealeant around it.
ps do a few boil washes help clean out the system and listen for heater to come in on programme 1 and 2 with temp set to 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sometimes if element goes down can cause problems with blockages -
