    Hi folks,

The switch control module for my Diplomat APP2170 cooker hood blew up when I was cleaning the hood (the cleaning fluid must have got inside the casing). So, I have ordered the replacement PCB (Cooker Hood Switch Control Module, part 08086238), but now need to fit it. I can see this will need to be soldered in place, which I should be able to do (by nicking the soldering gear from work and copying the appropriate wiring points from the original PCB). However, I can see this might be quite fiddly.

So, question is, does anyone have any particular words of advice for this procedure, or any links to any useful instructions?

    Many thanks in advance

    Murray

No links, no instructions…they don’t exist.

They are a fiddle, best advice is get a helper to hold the board for you while you solder, and warn them there’s a chance of getting burned, or at the very least rig up some boxes underneath to support the board (the cables aren’t very long)

Do the wires one at a time noting their routing, try not to fray the ends as they set frayed with the solder and then won’t fit through the holes in the new board. There’s not a lot of cable to cut back to fresh either.

Be prepared for arm ache 😆

If the plug is accessible then unplug before doing anything, if not then trace the circuit it’s fitted too (often the room lighting circuit) and flip the trip…

    Hi Clive,

Many thanks for your reply. I suspected a bit of mid-air soldering was going to be required…..

And yes, as you suggested, I don’t have much spare wire to cut back either, which is a bit of a pain as the terminal ends of some of the cables have got quite burned when the switch blew (it was the fan, rather than the light switch that burned).

Fortunately, then hood is wired to a dedicated wall trip, so its easy to turn off.

Right then, I’ll get a helper in a get to it.

    Thanks again for the advice,

    Murray
