ParticipantHelp! We’ve just moved in and inherited a semi-integrated Diplomat dishwasher – I’ve discovered it’s model ADP 8500, I suspect it’s about 4-5 years old.
First use of it and the dishes didn’t clean properly, the soap tablet dropped to the bottom and didn’t dissolve properly. We thought there might be a problem with the soap “door” or something, so next time, dropped the tablet into the bottom of the dishwasher part way into the cycle. Hey presto, worked fine.
Went to use it again today – cycle starts (though water seems to be cold?) and stops part-way – within the first couple of mins or so. There’s no digital display to show an error code, but the start button LED light is flashing, in bursts of 8.
The previous owner didn’t leave us the manual, and I have spent 2 hours reading all the old questions here and elsewhere and am none the wiser. HELP! (I did try holding in the start button for a few seconds, which seems to then start it again when I let go, but it stops again after a minute or two, again flashing 8 times.)
Presumably, the 8 flashes is a code for some form of error, but I don’t know what, or how to fix it….
Secondarily, if the error requires calling out an engineer etc, we are just better off buying a new dishwasher for £300 given call out costs, part costs, and the age of this machine?!
Any help really appreciated.

Problems with water level control. From your description, I would suspect that the machine thinks that it’s full when it should be empty. This is most likely caused by the water level indicator in the sump being full of congealed goo. This is the black grid at 3 o’clock. Attacking it with a toothbrush and plenty of hot water may scrub the muck out. If it doesn’t, it will have to be removed and cleaned properly or replaced. It’s a twist fit from underneath.
Power off before going in………
