even a £2.99 multimeter would give you at least a continuity reading on the element. i have a seaward supernova plus pat tester. it’s the dogs b******* but it cant tell me if the elements open circuit unless its on heat cycle during a power-up test.
like the guys say, get yourself a stand alone insulation tester and you’d have diagnosed the elements status straight away.
finally of course it could take out a fuse. lets say that when it failed it went down to earth but since cooling off that earth fault has “healed” itself.
oven elements do this all the time.August 5, 2010 at 3:35 pm #326407adv

Last time I looked there were plenty of excellent quality secondhand meggers on e-bay at very good prices. Heck, I sold my old one for a fiver on there when I got a more modern compact one. Was an analogue Eagle cost me £40 secondhand in 1988.
