ParticipantPaid £43 to get element replaced (and call-out fee) after it went BANG but they could not get the oven to work.
Have since had an electrician in today who informed that the whole oven needs replaced. Is this a common occurence with this make of oven and if so, can another make be purchased to replace it? Does it have to be Diplomat as the gas hob is working fine (touch wood).

Hi there,
You can replace the oven with any make they all cone as standard size as long as you get the same kind of oven.
Why does the oven need replacing?.August 7, 2007 at 6:56 pm #223698jeanzqueen

I can’t get anyone to get it working. Have had four electricians out altogether. One replaced the element; one had no clue as to what was wrong; one did that sucking-air-in-through-his-teeth noise before telling me he couldn’t do anything with it and the one today said that it was beyond repair.
Any suggestions?

What is it that doesn’t work? The whole thing? Just the oven function? Is the grill working? Has the timer been reset to show a time?

Neither the grill, oven, fan, oven light or timer is working. Switch it on, twiddle the knobs, press the clock buttons and nothing at all 😥
The hob still works fine (gas) and the ignition switch for the hob works fine (electric).

ParticipantI would suspect that it has blown the thermal overheat switch.

Yup, safety cut-out is in-line on the live feed from the terminal block. Lose that, you lose the lot. It’s a little white ceramic block on the back of the oven and it should read normally closed when tested with a meter.
P/no 76X2744, about a tenner last time I checked. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly enough.
No disrespect to your sparkies, but you should get an appliance repairer on the case. I have no idea how a double pole lighting circuit works; most sparks won’t have much of a clue about an oven………
Click the link below for a UKW repairer in your area.

I’d to pay him because he still came out and replaced the element… wasn’t happy about it but done it anyway.
I had a look for a local UKWhiteGoods repairer but there’s none in my area (Fife, Scotland).
If I order the part P/no 76X2744, what’s the chances of getting someone to fit it? :rolls: 😆
This is a great site. I’ll definitely be recommending it to others. You’ve all been so patient and helpful. Thank you!
