Diplomat fan oven slow to heat up

Hi all,

I’ve just moved in to a house. The prvious owners left the cooker, a diplomat select DL60, complete with the instruction book.. According the the manual, fan ovens dont take long at all to heat up 2-3 mins it says. set the temperature at 200 degrees and after 5 mins, chucked my dinner in. The required 45 mins passsed so removed the food. When I checked to see if it was hot in the middle, I found it was only luke warm. I moved the oven controll down the temp scale and the light went off at 160 (I initially thought the the red light was to indicate the oven was on. 😳 doh!). Anyway I whacked the temp up to the max and give it another 15 mins after which time the temp was reached and the food was cooked. Surely this isn’t right. …is it?

Any suggestions before I get food poisoning welcomed.

Always wait for light to go out first before putting food in, the time for oven to heat up depends on ambient temperature of room if its very cold it will take longer. And get an oven thermometer to check the temperature

Tried again last night. Turned the oven on full with no food in. Took about 45 mins to heat up to even 160 degrees….

Full model number required , Diplomat normally use three letters followed by four numbers (eg ADP5406).
If its not around the door you will need to remove fixing screws and slide oven out slightly to hopefully reveal a label plate on top of casing with model number.

Is the fan in the main oven running? Often customers are not aware that the fan has ceased to function and relying on the element alone will cause the oven to heat very slowly.

Sorry for the delayed reply. The model number is ADP5152. The fan runs ok when the oven is on.

can you see the fan running at the back of the inside of the oven? This model has a noisy cooling fan also which you may hear running.

there is a fan at the back of the oven behind a cover. It does look to spin very fast as soon as the oven is turned on and stop as soon as the oven is turned off…

Most fans spin very rapidly – suggest removing back panel to get a better look. Slow spinning fan will result in poor performance. At same time you can inspect element for signs of deteriation.

Sorry to resurect this post but it’s now bugging me..
I’ve taken the back panel off and turned the cooker on. It gets to 200 degrees in about 10 mins. Put the cover back on and it goes back to taking an age to heat up.. With the cover off, you can see the fan spinning and it seems to be OK although I’ve nothing to compare it against.

Don’t know if this is a red hearing just to cloud the issue, nut the grill seems to only want to cook things when it’s on full power also…

any ideas

I would call an engineer to be honest, it may be that there is a voltage drop to your cooker which would effect both elements. Quite unusual but not unheard of 😉
