ParticipantMy Diplomat fridge Model No APM 6816 Ser.No. 974303210 ices up on the bottom and in the veg compartments, despite having a new thermostat fitted. It also has a regular pattern of (?) gurgling. Basically, non stop. The icing up fault was the reason for fitting the new thermostat…….which obviously did not cure the problem.
Your thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Can you see inside where the thermostat phial/sensor is fitted to the back and is the ice reaching it?

I’m grateful for such a prompt reply….thanks.
Yes, I have looked at the top, right, area and yes, it is in fact covered with a quite extensive patch of frosty ice. perhaps 5mm at its thickest. I feel a bit of a fool, not to have noticed this myself.
Thanks again. What next? Jasper.November 18, 2009 at 12:25 am #303945jaspiper
ParticipantHello Brian (?)
Keeping a check on my fridge, I’m now further mystified. Over the next 24 hours, the fridge frosty ice I mentioned has melted (too much for the drain hole ?)forming a considerable pool of water on the bottom of the fridge….which has then started to freeze and the same top right spot, at the point where the thermo sensor passes thro’ has started to refreeze. ParticipantHello Brian (?),
Waiting tor any further advice from anyone, I’ve had a further thought…that the compressor is not getting switched off for some reason. That would explain, what I thought was a persistent ‘gurgling noise, if so, is that likely to be a repairable fault (on a seven or eight year old fridge) ? Sounds like a shortage of refrigerant or poor compressor performance.
You would need an engineer to confirm and repair if indeed it were possible.
At the age it is it’s probably better to invest in a replacement.
